@sevenproxies4255 what people are referring to when they say "toxic masculinity" arent the positive masculine traits, but the negative ones. refusing to talk about his emotions, burying his fears beneath a fake facade which not only hurts him but also his wife, his hostility, short-temper (which nearly made him lose his job) and his generally crude mannerisms which include some of his douchier behaviour which was especially prevalent in season 1. I think its also fair to say that Skylar white and Marie schrader, in similiar manner, suffers from toxic femininity. passive aggressiveness, emotional manipulation and volatile emotions. and the characterization of these people in such a manner was very much intended, as the intent was to make Walter White seem sympathetic in contrast.

@imcallingjapan2178 to be fair to the sort of anti-feminist crowd, when the term "toxic masculinity" is applied too liberally you do eventually form a knee-jerk reaction, even if unwarranted. not helped that toxic masculinity and healthy masculinity often have blurred lines, worsened further by people who either try to make "femininity = positive, masculinity = negative", if not straight up erode the very concepts entirely.

@sakikogookheng He strained his marriage over his burying of his PTSD and emotions concerning the matter, which especially affected Marie poorly. he also pummeled Jesse and nearly lost his job. likewise he has a lot of more casually toxic masculine traits as well, as expressed with some his douchy and macho behaviour which was especially prevalent in season 1. But obviously there are a ton of positive masculine traits, and more often than not the blurry line between Toxic and positive can make good traits seem bad and vice versa. There are also a ton of toxic feminine traits among many of the female characters in the show, particularly Marie schrader and Skylar white. It was definatly the intent by the writer, as to make Walter seem more sympathetic.
