Well there's a few problems with what the professor advocates: 1) We've seen the government in large Democracies will simply take all your money if you protest in a way the government doesn't like 2) These small banks do not have enough capital to create large loans for for businesses to expand which apparently is not a problem in North Dakota but would be in a larger state 3) If these state-owned banks are underwriting loans for housing and housing goes bust like it did in 2009, then who's going to bail them out? If it's the state, then it's hard to understand why this would be better. I appreciate his passion, but it's not well considered.
