The only thing missing from this to make it a classic Japanese film is a monster rising from the ocean to take on the US Fleet.

@coleparker At the beginning of the war, the Japanese fleet was by far the best trained (the US pilots for years could not properly execute a proper torpedo attack), and their naval doctrine of Kantai Kessen (developed by an American) led to the development of Kidō Butai which was a superior approach to using the strengths of aircraft carriers and airplanes to best advantage. If you want to argue about inferior guns, fine, but weapons by themselves do not win battles. It's the way the elements are brought together, i.e. their doctrine, that is important to winning battles and wars. It took the US a long time to get there.

@capnbobretired The Japanese Navy at the time was the best in the world, and their training was superior. You are right, they would not have panicked.
