What's actually happening with lower prices (particularly by Tesla) is they only get efficiencies in manufacturing if they produce according to a schedule. Demand has leveled off for EVs. If they try to bring down production numbers, manufacturing costs go up, and so they're lowering prices to stimulate demand. That will only work to a point, since demand for EVs is limited amongst the general public.

@restonthewind replacing a transmission is about $4K. How much is a new battery for a tesla?

@restonthewind The coda to your story is that MP3 players had a relatively short lifespan, so by 2010 the market for MP3 players was essentially done as better technology (smartphones) became more sophisticated and no one wanted them anymore. The last mainstream player was from Apple about 2 years ago, and they only kept it that long because it was their POS system for Apple stores. So your story is probably more correct than you realize.

@teams3345 They've stopped making them because consumers don't want them at the rate everyone assumed they would. Ford can sell all the pickup trucks and SUVs they can make as long as they can stop using gas/diesel cars to subsidize EVs. They could get the price down where middle class people can afford them. Surely you've read that all dealers have written a letter to the Biden administration telling them to stop forcing consumers to buy EVs because they can't sell them right now. The revolution is over before it started
