Comments by "TeeKay" (@teekay_1) on "Why SO MANY Electric Car owners are SWITCHING back to petrol | MGUY Australia" video.
The reason this is happening is EV owners are asking a basic question: What can an EV do that my gas powered car cannot do? And why must I charge it every night? Why must I have a 2nd car if I'm traveling a long distance (which is common in the US)? And why am I paying more for a car that ultimately has less utility and higher insurance costs than a gas powered car?

@dizzydella1 Instant beer is a better concept though.

@dizzydella1 Better to be quiet and thought a fool than to post what you've been posting and remove all doubt.

@WeeShoeyDugless If you live around a lake or waterway, you're probably going to be towing your boat quite a bit.

@dizzydella1 instant torque is a marketing term, roughly the equivalent of GM calling their automatic transmissions "TurboHydraMatic". What it refers to is that an electric motor of any type (even the one in your office fan) generates the same torque regardless of the RPM of the shaft, which you'd know if you were any kind of engineer.

@dizzydella1 what about linear acceleration Not happening with an EV, they're too heavy, and like everything they are subject to Newton's first law of motion and air resistance. The big issue is wind resistance which becomes significant as a car goes above 70 MPH. In general, the force produced by air drag is proportional to the square of the speed of the car. So, there is 4 times as much air drag created at 60 mph as there is created at 30 mph. Interesting trivia, on average, gas powered cars have a faster top speed than the average EV because the transmission in a car can trade torque for horsepower.

@dizzydella1 Most people have a job they need to get to. So apparently you believe they're the ideal car for retired people with no hobbies?

@dizzydella1 What a weird comment.

@dizzydella1 All gas cars are powered by the sun.

@dizzydella1 Neither has linear acceleration. The closest you'll get to that are top fuel dragster which has 8,000 lb/ft of torque and roughly 11,000 horsepower, but like all things in the universe are governed by the laws of physics, and unfortunately entropy.

@rogerphelps9939 There is no data that suggests EVs are something required to save the planet. In fact there is substantial evidence they will not, and may do more harm.

@AlanHill-r7l Not in the US. That kind of nonsense gets politicians voted out of office. Fact.

@LarryEngel-b1b Perfect example, the first iPhones were so much better than blackberry and flip phones that people stood in line to buy them.

@martinwalker9234 Finish the sentence, it's to discourage Chinese EV sales, because they're 1/3 the price of domestic EVs. This is about protecting local industry, not demand for EVs.
1
@martinwalker9234 so why is the EU planning to introduce huge tariffs on EV's to lower the demand for Chinese EVs to protect local industry Because a €10K EV makes sense. A €30K does not.

@mitus85 torque converter. It's a fascinating device that is both devilishly simple and pure genius. It literally uses fluid to transmit power. Today, automakers don't like them so much because they're somewhat inefficient, but they are very smooth .

@mitus85 EVs don't have torque converters; they have no need for one.
