@raypalmer7733 Not many.

@rattusfinkus Hertz got rid of them because there was no consumer demand for rental EVs. That's a fact.
11
@raypalmer7733 Not so much. Emergency generators will run automatically at least once a week and alert the owner if there is an issue, maintenance is someone coming by twice a year to change the oil and filter.

@SioxerNikita I'm sure that's your opinion, but without data, it remains your opinion, nothing more. " they have to build off-ramps for safety..." Only in steep descents and its generally for human error when people overload these large trucks. You'll note they're rarely used.
4
@DouglasLippi Pretty sure that most gas stations have a diesel generator for such contingencies.

@raypalmer7733 The chinese evs so far are not price competitive either. You'd only buy a Chinese EV is there were less than $10K US because you know two things will be true: 1) The support will be poor 2) Parts availability after 5 years will be non-existent.

@KidHorn7001 Every automated pump, you go inside and you give them money and they program the pump to stop when it hits the amount you asked for. You sound like a guy who doesn't believe this, but next time you're filling up your car, note the pump number, walk inside the the gas station, hand the clerk a $20 and say "twenty dollars worth on pump 3 [or whatever pump]"
3
@KidHorn7001 EV production costs are going to drop far below ICE car production costs Well, so far that hasn't happened. Can you give us a rough idea when that might happen?
3
@KidHorn7001 It has not been happening. That's the point. Based on features and class, gasoline cars are far cheaper than EVs today. Just go into any dealership that sells both and the price is right there to see.
3
@danquaylesitsspeltpotatoe8307 less than you imagine, and less than EVs
2
@steveinoz8188 It's mostly to do with the immaturity of the the state of the art in EVs. No one on the planet is producing EVs that can compete with the cheapest of gasoline or diesel powered cars, except for consumers who only drive their EVs a few kilometers per day. But right now they're a niche car, and will be until the power source is not lithium, and are at parity with gasoline/diesel cars in every situation.

@SioxerNikita Brake failure in modern cars is so rare that it would make the news nationwide if it happened.
1
@SioxerNikita So your thinking is that since they have these runoffs on steep grades for overweight tractor trailers, you can extrapolate that to the passenger car experience. You are believe these brake failures are common enough to say they are common. I mean you could have gone with, "I'm sure it happens every now and then", but no, you went with "we have a serious NHTSA-type issue where we need to recall pretty much every car made because we've discovered brake failure is common; Women and children riding in their BMW X5 and sudden brake failure is taking place making men widowers and killing people willy-nilly by random, common brake failure" Okay, we'll go with that if you say so.

Without looking through the comments, the crazies will claim Ford will go out of business now because EVs will take over very soon and governments will stop allowing gas cars to be made. I don't expect to be disappointed by them Incidentally, this explains thermal runaway in lithium batteries: https://youtu.be/AIXTP-TgPEw

iscadean3607 I've been in a polestar dealership. Not sure what you mean.

@KidHorn7001 Keep a couple hundred bucks around for emergencies. Then you can buy gas, even groceries in an emergency

@danquaylesitsspeltpotatoe8307 You're the one who made the claim EVs pollute less than normal cars, and you provided nothing to prove it. That was your imagination. No science to back it up.
