@williammeek4078 Does the rash of Chevy Volt fires count? Does the woman killed in fiery Tesla crash on Sunset Boulevard count? Does the loss of the car carrier Fremantle Highway count?

@rattusfinkus Can't trust Toyoda's judgment if he still thinks hydrogen is an option. Hydrogen vehicles are not an option. What area of hydrogen propulsion or hydrogen production do you work in?
5
@rattusfinkus The first flaw is you have no idea what the future will hold, especially when large companies the world over are spending venture capital on hydrogen. The second flaw is you have less understanding of the situation than the head of Toyota, who gets his information from the engineers who have been assigned to the hydrogen car project(s). I can list more, but I'm trying not to be insulting to you.

That's the great thing about choice. There's a vehicle for everybody.
5
@rattusfinkus Repeating this post actually makes your argument less cogent.

@rattusfinkus As they roll out commercially, gasoline stations can be converted to support gasoline, diesel and hydrogen, since the refueling time for a hydrogen car will be similar to that of normal cars.

@williammeek4078 There's a cult for everything these days.

@williammeek4078 It was only 10 years ago that EVs were practical, let's give it a little time, since EVs seem to be stuck in the 300 miles of range should be good enough for anybody mindset.
2
@Tom-dt4ic You're hauling around an awfully big and heavy battery that is essentially a time bomb underneath you. A battery in an EV is so large and heavy, that it weight more than a motor, muffler, radiator, starter motor, etc. But hey, you do you. Just accept EV's cannot ever have the range, convenience, and utility of a gas/diesel car.
2
@williammeek4078 You've just admitted you have no idea what the word means.
2
@JoeBManco But the fire has 50x the impact of a gas fire.
1
@williammeek4078 Well, both of them were pretty awful, so people escaped the engineering prowess of them.
1
@TheNyhm1 Yes, EV fanatics ignore that while gas cars may burn more often, the consequences of an EV fire are always devastating.
1
@rattusfinkus I've demonstrated you have no specific knowledge that would indicate you could be taken seriously about hydrogen as a fuel for cars. The fact that you didn't understand that pretty much proves my point.
1
@rattusfinkus As has been reported, but they were talking about the construction of the vehicle and how cheaply they can be made. They weren't talking about the propulsion system.

I tend to agree with him. It will take EVs too long to wait for new battery technology that has to have at least a 3-5x the energy density of today's battery and doesn't require the caution that you have to treat today's batteries. For every person saying "EV batteries are fine" there are four more saying it's unacceptable. And trying to predict technology 10 years from now is a fool's game. We have no idea if batteries can get significantly better in 10 years, and we have no idea what alternative technologies will be better than battery powered cars. Which why I find it weird that EV fanatics don't hope for something better; significantly better batteries, significantly better internal combustion engines, less government intrusion on consumer choices. It reminds me of the old iPhone/Android arguments that used to break out online a decade ago.

@7s29 ...because they have a lithium battery...
1
@Tom-dt4ic lol. Good for you. But EVs have less utility than regular cars, and they're about twice as much as they should cost, given the limitations compared to real cars. Unless your only comparison is "I can go to 0-60 faster than you" If that's your yardstick, then you've found your car. And don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

The rest of them have functioning brains (not counting the CEO of GM), but when the US administration is throwing 9 billion dollar low-interest loans at them, they have to give lip service to it.

@citoante Who's to say you're not a government agent trying to poison a grass-roots campaign? ;)
