The additional cost and complexity of hybrids make them only useful for people who lease and turn them in before the warranty is over.

I argued years ago that Carbon Credits were a scam, and people were outraged. So I asked.... who gets the money from carbon credits? And the answer was "it doesn't matter, it's about externalities". It always matters where the money is going. If it's not going to you, it's a scam.

The crazy left in the US hates Musk. Oh sure, they loved him 18 months ago, but once he started digging into the US government finances and is recommending eliminating programs and people, the crazy left went from a love affair with him to a visceral hatred. There's a thin line between love and hate.

@ With significantly more complexity. You need a modified drive train that will allow the electrical motors to interact with the gas powered drive train, you need a smaller lithium battery (which has the same drawback as larger lithium batteries) and when that battery fails, your car, depending on model won't work.

@不死鳥-u4e Toyota hybrids still has a transmission called the Hybrid Synergy Drive and still uses a planetary gearset, which is similar to a CVT. So you still have the complexity of the battery and gas engine but when the battery goes bad (and it will), the car won't work. And for very little gain. Just get the gas powered car and you'll get a Toyota that will work for 20 years with only routine maintenance.
