@badchefi Terrific news. Then we can end subsidies, and since they'll be popular, private industry can pick up the cost of chargers everywhere. After all, Tesla's done it, so it would be embarrassing for the entire EV industry if they go begging the taxpayer to build out the charger network. After all, the government didn't build out the filling station network.

@davestvwatching2408 That works for people with garages, what about the majority of people who have street or basement parking in an apartment building?

That's because of liability. If the insurance company ok's a repair and the car catches fire in the guy's garage, the insurance company owns that liability 100%

@teardowndan5364 For a minor accident where a fender may need to be replaced and the battery might need replacement, people (as you say) may refuse to have that replaced. Which may have consequences either through premature failure or a fire. Then we'll have a lot of finger pointing with lawsuits, and one suspects the manufacturers will end up bearing the brunt of it.

@badchefi or better if you are so smart why don’t you run for office yourself and do a better job A Jelly fish could do better than what we have in the US.

As pointed out multiple times, Consumer Reports (a major consumer/testing magazine in the US) does an annual survey of owners for cars for what's broken, and it turns out that EVs are not particularly bad at reliability, but they're not particularly good at reliability. Mid-pack at best compared with normal cars. The most reliable brands are Lexus, Toyota, Honda, Acura, Subaru, Mazda and a few others.

@davestvwatching2408 Since Hybrids are cheaper, and work better, that might be a better solution than EVs since it requires no additional investment beyond the cars themselves.

@badchefi Well, only the banana boat ones.

@mickjoebills It's not the number, it's the difficulty in putting an EV fire out. How would put out the fire if your EV caught fire in the garage?
