@gerbre1 To expand that quite a bit, the west is not the main cause of pollution; it is the far east, and if Europe and the US stopped using all oil, it would have no impact on the climate.

@gerbre1 China doesn't care about the climate or even basic ecology. Because words are kind of meaningless especially coming from Chinese leadership. Actions matter more than anything. But people in the west are so hooked on virtue signaling that they care about the latest thing they let their feelings override logic and common sense. We see a lot of that lately.

@williammeek4078 EV sales aren't going up as quickly as forecast, that's the issue. And the forecast was based on a curve that said we'd be mostly buying EVs by 2030. The chances of that happening are remote.

@gerbre1 That's great, so why are they building coal plants at a much faster rate? Is the answer perhaps... just perhaps ... that solar and wind are at best ancillary power sources that are the least efficient way to generate large amounts of electricity?

@gerbre1 China wants to reduce emissions beginning with 2030 according to the long term plans Frankly, I'd wait until China has demonstrated they're shutting down all their coal plants before committing to anything. BTW, it is an impossibility for us to become carbon neutral. That's more of a slogan than an actual goal, especially when you consider the way we're achieving carbon neutrality is by pretending that we're not going to cut down forests in an amount equal to the to the carbon dioxide we emit.

@beatreuteler EV sales in the US have effectively flatlined, and the existing administration will be gone in another years, so a lot of the goals set up will be eliminated.

@beatreuteler The US is the largest single market for cars in the world.
