@tigertoo01 It's cheaper to get an emergency generator hooked to you house, using natural gas, propane or diesel.

@stewart5989 No EV charges in 15 minutes, and why would the taxpayers want to pay for putting emergency EV battery chargers for police everywhere when we have these things called "gas stations" that already have the capability.

@stewart5989 Charging is 1 hour based on a test by US News and World report from August of 2023 with the title How Long Does It Take To Charge a Tesla? They would appear to be unbiased. Sounds like you would also suggest we should have kept telephone booths rather than mobile phones Well, if you're comparing EVs to a mobile phone, mobile phones would weigh as much as a telephone booth, would have a standby time of 4 hours and talk time of 15 minutes, but the Mobile Fanatics would say it's not a big deal because they never talk on the phone more than 15 minutes, and they only charge it at home anyway.

@stewart5989 You've pointed out another issue with batteries. If you actually use them to the advertised range, you'll destroy the battery pretty quickly. The practical range of an EV assumes you won't charge more than 80% and won't let it get below 20%, taking 40% of the full range away. And yes, I always take my car down to 2-3 gallons left and fill it completely up in 2-3 minutes. That's the advantage of the gas cars, you get to use the entire range particularly when you go on long trips.

@allenhill4578 Actually larger filling stations generally do keep diesel generators around precisely because electric power in storm conditions tends to be unreliable. So this is not unusual. The nice part about a generator like this is that the diesel fuel will often last for weeks if used intelligently, giving people a chance to recover very quickly in a storm. And flooding only affect low-lying areas.
