@waynegazard5038 Almost no children were lost to COVID, and has recently been released, COVID shots and boosters have a minimal impact on preventing or stopping the spread of COVID. Oh, and everybody will eventually lose both parents to some illness. That's how life works.

@seannewman5391 A carbon tax will be one of the worst things to happen to people. It will give bureaucrats a lever to give favors to the groups they decide will help them politically, and punish the people and industries they don't agree with. It reminds of the income tax in the US. When the amendment was passed, it was only supposed to affect the top 1% of people. How did that work out? Or Social Security, which they promised would only be "A nickel in each paycheck". The road to hell is paved with good intentions, but when politicians are involved, the "good intentions" aren't there to begin with.

@itsMe_TheHerpes maybe we just need more subsidies for green transport Nah. They either make it on their own or its not worth doing. Don't rope the taxpayers in to pay for for the stupidity of politicians

@seannewman5391 "Big oil are fabulously rich" Far less so than Amazon and Apple, but nobody's complaining about them.

He neglected to point out from the article that the trucking companies using EVs are putting huge surcharges on top of fees for using EVs making the price of goods and services even more expensive for everybody.

@itsMe_TheHerpes Laws are like the seasons, they change all the time. And will.

@timsbird1971 Lifetime costs for an EV are not well understood (including depreciation), but right now, the better deal is to buy a gas car and keep it 20 years.

@itsMe_TheHerpes lol. Let's make the subsidies voluntary for taxpayers so we don't pay for the fever dreams of the crazies and politicians.

@freethinker4991 EV fanatics use that talking point about EVs, but here's the reality: When an Internal Combustion car catches fire, it can be put out using extinguishers when if they catch it early or lots of water from the fire department later. Or worst case they let it burn out in 30 minutes When an EV car, just a car, catches fire, there is no way to put it out ; it burns hot enough to melt steel and destroy concrete. You can't even dump it in a lake to put it out, because it creates its own oxygen. Now imagine a vehicle with batteries 10x as powerful as an EV catch fire. It will be disaster for an entire community. So it's not just about how frequently it happens, it's about the impact when it happens.

@redevic5292 This is the short run. In the long run, ports will move to other areas, including Mexico, making it California an even worse place for the people who remain.

@seannewman5391 Most governance is corrupt though. Name one income distribution plan that isn't corrupt.

@freethinker4991 and as such they can't be essential part of being able to control a heavy vehicle for safety reasons Yes, they are, because these trucks operate on interstates where there are mountain passes that can go up to 5-8,000 feet.

There is a curve on EV range and weight. You increase weight of batteries significantly faster than you increase the capacity (weight) of batteries, which is why all current EVs are designed around a 300 mile range.
2
@itsMe_TheHerpes Yes, but we need law enforcement. EVs not so much. We'll have fossil fuels as our primary source to keep civilization running for another 75 years at least, so you need to get over yourself a bit.
1
@itsMe_TheHerpes I'm not worried a bit. Most of the Green nonsense will get thrown out in about a year in the US.
1
@freethinker4991 You do know the EV trucks don't use there brakes as much because they regenerate to slowdown ...making them far more expensive to maintain and will lead to more brake failures

@rodshoaf Pintos were an okay car, but they cheaped out on using the right crash protection around the fuel tank. Certainly better than the Vega which like typical GM was underdeveloped. A $5 fix led to a lot of deaths.

@itsMe_TheHerpes well you can move to north korea if you don't like it Yes, if you don't like authoritarian edicts from the Green Crazies, you can move to North Korea. Do you guys even listen to yourselves?
