@WillBecker But when the burn, they not only can't be put out, they will destroy anything near them. This argument is like saying nuclear bombs explode at a far lower rate than conventional bombs.

@WillBecker over 50% of gasoline car drivers said they'd never consider an EV. By the same token, EVs are unlikely to gain a lot of traction for multiple reasons.

The Polestar, from a design perspective is actually quite nice; it puts Tesla to shame. But the Achilles heel is twofold: A high out-the-door price and the real killer a useful range of only 220 miles. And before you say "But I only drive 5 miles a day", then why would you purchase a $65K+ car for driving 25 miles a week? Also, every time I see the word "Polestar", I keep thinking it's "Polecat"

to be fair, a lot of the crazy things going on today will be looked at as a civilization gone mad in another two decades. And you all know what I'm talking about.

@Honestyalwaysprevails Ask if all the fuel taxes are being used to update the roads. If not, that's the problem.

@DougRutter Betamax as a format actually lasted longer than VHS. Fact.

@philiphumphrey1548 Electrical cars were popular with the gentry and women back in the early 20th century, primarily because gas cars required the strength of a man to crank. Once Cadillac perfected the electric starter, electric cars went away because of.... and this will shock you ... lack of range and long charging times.

The new bus would have sold like crazy had they put a turbo four in it and brought it to the US. Too much money chasing immature technology and not enough emphasis on cars that people want. That's a formula for failure in pretty much every business.

So it's not people clamoring to be taxed, its the government clamoring to tax people for something they've already paid for.

The EV industry is so lacking in maturity in how it handles simple things like "what is the condition of a battery, and how close is it to end of life" or even "sensors to detect a likely failure mode that will lead to thermal runaway that will gracefully reduce power to eliminate a catastrophic failure" You could argue even gas cars have these simple warnings... temperature gauges, charging gauges, oil pressure gauges, CEL warnings. That will tell you about imminent failure. Back in 1915, you could get away with a gas car that was a tinkerer's dream, but in a completely computerized car, there's actually no excuse for not having failure warnings to the driver, or M/L failure mode detection that would fix problems automatically and eliminate catastrophic battery failure.

It may or may not be true, but this isn't the EU. Politicians will be out of office pretty quickly if they try to push this, especially in western europe where the distances between cities is fairly small by US standards. Plus the train actually works well in the EU with frequent runs and cheap ticket prices. Would Clownifornia do it? Maybe, but even there, they would have to spend trillions over a 10-20 year period to go forward with this type of regimented anti-democratic plan.

The only reason EVs are selling in such numbers is because: 1) the shortage of the cars people really want 2) Dealers profiteering by adding additional markup on the cars people want 3) Legacy automakers raising prices on ICE cars to subsidize EV

@DougRutter both formats became dinosaurs following the welcome introduction of CD Since CDs did not replace video tape formats, it's hard to understand what you're getting at. I suspect dinosaurs will never accept their major financial errors? Okay, lefty.

Some people would rather virtue signal their entire lives rather than have a comfortable retirement.

@TurdFergusen the ice mfgrs are losing economies of scale hahahahahahaha.

@juliandavies7890 An EV can go as far as any other car It just takes twice as long to go as far. Just because you want to belt about throwing out noxious fumes everywhere You're funny.
1
EV depreciation is not a consideration if you buy a 3 year old one coming off lease for $10K (US)
