Do you realize the only reason car dealers could ask for more than MSRP is because manufacturers weren't making enough cars? This situations existed in the late 1970s as well, and were largely caused by the same reason. And keep in mind you have the option of going to another dealership, again though if a car is in short supply, it reduces your leverage.
