I'm enjoying the jokes about this as much as anyone, but there is a serious question underlying all of this that should the American people think the future of the Federal Workforce: 1) Is the Federal Government willing to pay the best people in the field to ensure things move ahead? That would probably mean significantly increasing salaries and offering bonuses and such. 2) If not, is the Federal Government the employer of last resort (which I believe it is now) which means we will have to go through this culling exercise of the federal workforce every 5 years, with not much happening.
