@randellgribben9772 a new engine will last 25-35 years, longer than the rest of the car.
1
@randellgribben9772 It was also true about the first cars.

Hope people understand Ford doesn't care about dealer markups, except in the sense that they want those margins for themselves. So if they cut out the dealer, Ford will raise the price of the car to include the markup in the sticker prices and there won't be any more pricing at 10% of invoice.
1
@p.o.4339 Markups are only possible because the MANUFACTURER is limiting supply. Then they turn around and blame the dealers
1
"Ended up purchasing a competing vehicle from another dealer for a much more reasonable price." And when Ford raises the price $10K because of demand, who will you run to?
1
Non-negotiated price from the manufacturer means "we keep all the profits, and if supply is limited, we'll add "temporary price adjustments". And you'll be happy with it. Here's what nobody is getting.... if a dealer sells 100 cars & trucks a month, but now they're only getting 10-20 a month to sell, they have to do one of two things: 1) Raise the price on the inventory they have 2) Go out of business If you owned a dealership, what would you do?
1
If you think Dealers are screwing you now, Ford buyers will find out what it means for a multi-national company to screw you.
1
@AB-qt4dj Almost certainly a private deal with the administration has happened. The (the government) want to create a buzz that EV's will take over the car market, to make their 2030 deadline seem feasible. Obviously it's not.
1
Don't see how Ford is affected by Tesla even a little. Tesla only sells cars, Ford sells only trucks (plus the Mustang).
1
@bruceshenkel6991 That is very annoying. You can make it go faster if you come in with a check from your credit union though. Best one was the BMW dealer. It took only 10 minutes to complete the paperwork. No add-ons, no extra-special warranty, nothing extra.
1
@rayrussell6258 I've sold several on craigs list. If your car is in nice shape and you price it fairly, it takes no more than a few days in any metropolitan area.
1
@pierrelarocque3214 If Electric cars have nothing to wear out, why is the Tesla warranty only 4 years or 50K miles?
1
@JohnSmith-ux3tt I'll take your word for it. The irony here is that we only have enough copper to make a bunch of EV's OR increase grid capacity. not both. This is why large-scale adoption of EV's isn't going to happen. It's not physically possible. That's why the push by government is essentially one to push us back to 3rd world status not being able to travel where you want, when you want. And yes, grandma will be riding a bike. Damn her for not taking the Canadian Way Out when she gets old.
1
@wisenber Obama screwed all the bondholders out of their money, which were largely older retirees who used that as their primary source of income. That was the whole point of basically doing a paper swap with GM. They screwed the bondholders out of their money which wouldn't have happened with a reorganization.
1
@rayrussell6258 In fact, Ford has every reason to limit production to raise prices, especially if they have no dealers complaining they're going out of business because they don't have enough cars to sell.
1
@rayrussell6258 What any merchant does is try to optimize costs with selling price. Because those two things are only marginally related to each other. What are Ford and all other car makers doing? They have a limited supply of computer chips and other parts, so they're only making the highest profit vehicles. If you're buying a Ford, maybe they're only selling the Larriet XLS Deluxe Sonoma model in F350 with dual wheels and every frickin' option available and a few that aren't. And the dealers are cashing in because they're only getting 3 of them month. "Lots of high price luxury brands in US history have gone out of business when they ran out of rich people to buy more of their vehicles. " Sure. But if you can't sell volume because of constraints, then you raise prices, otherwise you go out of business anyway.
1
They're not going to sell many of the current Ford EV pickup trucks. Perhaps they should have kept funding Rivian. If they could cut the price by 50%, they'd have something.
1
Which is really a dumb way to run a business.
1
"Ford and GM Are Doubling Down To STOP MARKUPS" Yes, because Ford and GM want the markups for themselves. Fact. Plus you do realize the alternative to dealer markups are waiting lists, right?
1
If you were selling something and you knew people are willing to pay $100 for it, would you sell it for less than $100 just to be fair to the buyer?
1
Did you call a few dealers and get the best delivered price? Heck even for an iPhone I check Costco first because they sell them cheaper than apple.
1
@drobertsatplay Maybe in 20 years when they have batteries that give you 400-500 miles of range in cold and hot weather, and can be charged in 5 minutes.
1
Nope. The amount of copper needed to build out the grid in the US doesn't exist and can't be created. As dumb as Ford sounds in this video, our politicians are even dumber.
1
@mrsqueakthecat.8061 ... and when the cut office workers, everybody complains about "they put the little guy out of a job, and keep the profits for themselves".
1
As I mentioned above, Ford continues to sell those cars in Europe. This was really about moving upscale from $20k vehicles to $50K vehicles. Everything else he said is a complete fabrication.
1
@thomosburn8740 If you'll read any science papers on the topic of "renewables", they cannot be our primary source of electricity. They aren't reliable enough (and they can never be) so they will always be a tertiary power support. We're either going to have to invent a new source of energy (like Fusion?) or start building more thorium reactors. But with that said, that electric car in today's world is a worse polluter than the gas car you're sitting next to in traffic. Even at that, i don't wish to stop you from buying one. Only petty tyrants would say "I'll decide what type of car you're allowed to buy".
1
@dwightdodd3734 Ford, for creating shortages that allow dealers to charge markup. And of course, anybody who pays the inflated price.
1
@christopherbice862 These things go in cycles. If you go back to the Jimmy Carter malaise gas shortages, small economy cars were either unavailable or guess what.... dealers were charging huge markups. VW dealers were the worst, so you know what we did at the time? Didn't buy one. And within two years supply and demand came back in balance.
1
@jackarnold3290 I've probably bought a lot more cars than most in my life than most, and I'm describing reality as it exists today.
1
@dzerres Are you making the point that businesses shouldn't be able to charge what they want for they property they own? No one is forcing you to buy from a dealer who is out of line with pricing, and in the current situation, you could call around the city or state or country to find a dealer who will either sell one at list or put you on a waiting list. That's the ultimate freedom of having independent dealerships.
1
Ford likely did the shift to electric vehicles not because the market was demanding it, but rather because they expected the government to subsidize them. Farley should be fired for not looking after the stockholder interests rather than hoping for government subsidies to carry them through a strategy that will not be profitable for 30 years and is aimed at the 1% buyers.
