I have cut back significantly on tipping for two reasons: 1) Asking me to tip for giving an order at the counter and they hand it to me is completely non-tippable 2) Everybody has their hand out, sorry, companies need to do their job and pay their employees.

Have no fear. You press the "no tip" button on that ipad, and you've made your viewpoint known to the restaurant.

@MrGaiakid Almost all of the non-fast food places these days. They flip over that ipad to pay, and it always has a tip option. AND in addition they always put tip jars out. People actually put money in the jar.

Don't take the job if you need to beg for tips.

So you tipped someone for taking your order, and telling you how much you owe? Do you tip the checkout people at the grocery store? They're at least bagging your food.

In theory sounds like a great idea. In practice, I'd just as soon drive 5 minutes to the store myself. One of the guys on here admitted he could spit in food if there was no tip. How do I know any of them won't spit in my food just because they had a bad day?

@AmericusMaximus The whole message about "you should tip your driver" is a way for the C-suite at doordash to say "watch how we can cut drivers commissions, while we get the public to pay more of it".

@matt7156 So as independent contractors you agreed to take a job at a price. Why are you trying to change the deal after you've accepted the job?
4
@Perma10 So don't work for DoorDash. I don't use doordash, because all the restaurants are five minutes away from my house, and I can pick it up quicker than some poor guy who can't get a decent job and is living from the generosity of tippers.

@55Porter So you're saying Uber offers this service for free to the customer and restaurant?
3
@sethaldrich6902 It's largely that way in the rest of the first world.
3
@majorleaguesurfing Yes, my tip is highly dependent on them refilling my drink, checking on me during the meal, and being pleasant.
3
No. Door Dash needs to pay their workers. Why are you defending DoorDash.
3
So you're advocating tipping for delivering the minimum service promised by DoorDash? Seems like their business model is flawed if they can't pay their people enough to do their job properly.

@squigglyline2813 Strippers are worth it though. You put a dollar in and you get real value for your money. Plus those girls are in shape Or so I'm told.

@justinlawson3493 My USPS guy crawls through snow literally to deliver my mail some days, and all he expect is a nice hello and a chat on a warm saturday afternoon.

@dantana8570 It's not even remotely comparable to Amazon the post office and UPS along with FedEx and so on that was an asinine statement I agree and I apologize. Amazon, Post office UPS, and FedEx delivery personnel are professionals doing a far more difficult job and are compensated properly for the job they do. Which mean the right answer is for DoorDash to properly compensate the drivers. By tipping the drivers, you're allowing DoorDash's senior management to guilt you intopaying the drivers salary allowing them to give themselves million dollar bonuses for saving money while they get the little people to squabble over tipping. However, I will concede that everybody should stop using DoorDash and let the company know that they've stopped using the service because they're expecting their customers to make up for lack of proper compensation for their workers.

So why would he do it if he makes no money? Serious question.
1
@kenshinhimura9387 to reiterate: Taking my order and handing the food to me while I wait at the end of the counter is the minimum service. If they didn't do those things, they wouldn't be in business. So asking for a tip in this case is ridiculous. In fact, I am dismayed the manager allows it.

@DonesdeMotivacion Great. If you don't get a tip, you'll make the customer sick. Another reason not to even use these delivery services. The delivery drivers are psychopaths.

@Domtronic They do for the region they live. In the US we live in such a bubble, we think the whole world is like us. Meanwhile if these idiots trying to tear down the culture had their way, they'd starve to death in two weeks.

@binaryanticommunist1882 Depends how much you tip.
