@ericlf3087 Perhaps, but that's the equivalent of someone sells parts from junk cars suddenly becoming a car mechanic and race car driver.

I think you're right, but if you look at that movie as a metaphor of what happens to a man as he ages, the whole thing makes sense, not necessarily as deconstruction of Westerns (which are cartoons, after all), but a deconstruction of his own career.
