@daan7004 I did read it, and it's just a lot of buzz words that seem to drive today's politics to no particular end. Housing prices inflate because people want housing, and the thought of living in a tiny flat in a city is so crushing that of course people want something better. The TLDR as you like to say is stop blaming people before you for problems that you face. You are the master of your destiny, you are the captain of your ship. The world won't work the way you want it to, and that's been true for every generation. There's nothing special about you or me or anybody.

@리주민 They might and they might not. The question is whether taxes are high enough to afford paying out the pension. If the taxes aren't high enough then no, they are not fully earning the pension.

@TheMrgoodmanners It wasn't baby boomers in general, it was unsustainable pensions set up for government unions. It's why even Roosevelt said government pensions are a bad idea.... the unions give the candidates money to run their re-election, the politicians gets elected and is now obligated to give more generous benefits to the government works, It's a downward spiral for the taxpayers.

@janisfeldmanis1364 It won't happen. Tech will move to where it can't be taxed, and those havens will always exist. You won't get money out of them, because the smartest people move into tech and business, and the people left over work for the government. So you have people with 150 IQ's out thinking government authorities with 100 IQs

@janisfeldmanis1364 So sit down and do the math. The intake and expenditures are there. No communism or socialist system has ever worked, and the fatal flaw ultimately is that to enforce the ideals of socialism and communism requires strict authoritarian controls. Perhaps the millennials want this; after all they are scared to death of free speech, they consider the US ideal of free unfettered speech radical. And yes, the US is the only country with truly free speech.

@janisfeldmanis1364 The Soviet Union worked for a while and was considered the 2nd most powerful country in the world. They collapsed rather spectacularly because their citizens demanded the freedoms of the west. And China grew so quickly because it was an agrarian economy well into the 1980's. Right now China has death camps, proudly kills ethnic minorities, monitors citizens emails, texts, and social media postings and if you disagree with the state, privileges are taken away from you or you're jailed. Aside from the fact that China is an aristocracy combined with fascism, it's not a nice place to live for people who want to disagree with the state. Those wonderful strikes that France has today in China, the protestors would simply disappear. If that's your ideal place because they call themselves "communist", then enjoy, but you'd be the first one sent to a work camp when you posted something negative about Pooh Bear, the great and powerful leader.

@janisfeldmanis1364 I suggest not looking to youtube and reading an article or a book about China. China is still mostly agrarian, and has a human rights record roughly equal to North Korea. It is not a socialist country, it is an authoritarian dictatorship.

@janisfeldmanis1364 Scandinavia is not socialist. The prime minister of Sweden came out and said "We are not socialist. We tried in the 1970's and quickly moved back to capitalism because we were going broke". In fact, Scandinavia is one of the most capitalist countries in the world. Scandinavian people have a strong work ethic and are ethnically very close to on another.

@janisfeldmanis1364 Potentially, but it's because of Swedish culture, and their strong work ethic. If you listened to the first link the PM of Denmark go into detail on how they create strong incentives to keep people working and avoid giving money to lazy people. Further, if you live in the United States, you can have everything they have in Sweden and, provided you have the drive. It's why we have a problem with illegals, it's so good here we need to guard the borders to keep people out.

@Xamufam Sweden has a culture of hard work, similar to Germany. While a safety net is in place, there are culture taboos (or at least there used to be) against just sitting around and living off your fellow citizens.

artodisque The other thing that's unsustainable is keeping taxes so high that the wealthy and corporations leave for more equitable treatment instead of being treated as a sheep to be sheared. BTW, the wealth tax was dropped because it produced far less revenue than projected, and wealthy people simply moved out of the country.

artodisque American financing of Europe's defense has allowed all of Europe to build a comfortable safety net at American taxpayer expense. If that money goes away right now, Europe has no ability to defend itself. The EU is balking at paying 25% of the cost of defending them. So what will you do if you have to pay 100%? On the other hand, the EU doesn't really consider Russia threat, or they'd build more nuclear reactors to avoid being dependent on Putin for natural gas, but they appear to be jumping into his arms. So perhaps instead of paying for your own defense, you could simply trust Putin not to do anything bad.

@ndorobei4391 Well, except everybody has 13% of their salary put into Social Security (6.5 paid by company 6.5 paid by company). The problem is that the politicians keeps giving people SS even if they haven't paid into it. Same thing that's going to destroy Medicare.

@xyves8488 You brought up the moral and religious arguments about taking care of your the poor and weak, simply pointing out that if you're going to rely on these argument understand that no right comes without some responsibility. The reality is that if you want to depend on the taxpayers to pay your way through life, then understand you'll have a subsistence living and will always be at the whim of politicians. It's hard to understand how people willingly want politicians to take care of them, and then at the same time revile and protest them. A rational person would move, or educate themselves, or do something different to make them less vulnerable to the political winds that shift almost daily.

The trouble with pampered people is they believe the accident of birth puts a burden on everyone else to look after them while they sit on the champs-Elysee having a latte. In reality no economic system will work for very long unless at least 60% of the people are gainfully unemployed. Wild musings about being paid to sit around and get money from their fellow citizens won't last very long because either civilization goes bust, or people use better birth control. If your plan is that you sit around and enjoy life, you might get a rude shock that all the protests in the world won't help.

@andylane247 Nobody wants to pay the tab for it, except the people that would benefit, and almost all these plans punish the people with excellent healthcare. In fact, any healthcare that puts people on the dole in front of people paying the bills will fail.

@xyves8488 Once again you bring up the bible, but the bible also lays out the responsibilities of taking care of the sick and elderly while dictating that healthy men and women must work if they expect to live. So if you use the Bible as your guide to life, then you need to embrace the whole thing, not just a sentence or two.

@andylane247 Perhaps on average. But not on an individual basis. In Canada, they don't even allow people to buy private insurance because their socialized medicine doesn't have the capacity to provide the kinds of treatment that is available to me within a week or two in the US. I have the best doctors in the world available to me within 10 miles. When a relative needed an operation and cancer treatment, it was available within 3 days, and she was pronounced largely cured within 60 days. In other countries, she'd still be waiting for an appointment. Every medical system rations. It's either rationed by your ability to pay or by a government panel. I'll take my chances that I can pay for it on my own.

@andylane247 First of all, the armed forces are not an example of socialism. That's like saying highways are socialism. Or national parks. They're simply government services that people can use or not use. As for the WHO, isn't that the WHO who said in January 2020 COVID came from the wet market? And that there was no evidence for human to human transference of COVID? You might want to cite an authority that has a touch of credibility. My medical care is better than anyone else's in the world, because I pay for it, and I get the top doctors in the world. If you are able-bodied and decide working isn't for you, perhaps you deserve the 37th best medical care in the world.
