Europe would have to dismantle most of it's social programs and back off green energy if that happened. It's the US taxpayer who is enabling those socialized programs. That's the stark reality for you.
74
What presence does Europe have in the Pacific that would be pulled away?
43
It shows the benefit of investing in Defense doesn't it? Russia, absent American military might, could easily take Alaska, bu the price of doing so in reality would be a ruined country for them.
18
The shipping costs alone would be more than compliance with the equalizing trade between the two nations.
11
Perhaps the push to get rid of coal and nuclear power plants should be rethought in the light of Europe accidentally committing suicide by getting rid of Oil as the primary driver of their economy.
11
It always was predominantly the US
9
JD Vance did not go "rogue". Quite the opposite. He reflects the views of the American public.
8
Because the Aid provided to Ukraine from the US was a loan.
8
Maybe they can put a Pan-EU VAT tax of 20% to fund the imagined army?
7
Washington is not "agog today". in fact, JD Vance reflects the mood of the US public. Most people do want the Ukraine war to end, and no one is in a mood to spend more money on a pointless war. That's actually what's going on. You're listening to the chattering class and getting bad information.
7
@ Your culture, family and your children. Europe seems intent on destroying itself and I am genuinely puzzled why you don't see it and take measures to stop bowing to fringe interests.
6
@RollingWaveABD The source was US money that the little comedian admitted he has lost track of.
6
Do you think someone stole the chair?
6
the UK and France already have nuclear weapons, but as a practical matter, nuclear weapons are actually impractical since their use would mean the Russians would retaliate in kind.
6
Ukraine is out of people and money. Perhaps Europe can have a draft and send their sons to save Ukraine. Although to die for a country that's so corrupt the EU refused to admit it, perhaps I would send my son off to the US instead. The only risk is he may not want to leave once he gets there.
6
I'm sure you speak for 21% of all Americans with that apology.
5
Why would people protest over what a majority of the public voted for. That sounds crazy, my good man.
5
What do you believe Russia's goals are? Be specific, don't go with some sort of James Bond "take over the world". And why do you think Russia has the GDP or logistics capability of doing it.
5
The irony is that you believe that, despite the evidence in front of you.
5
Have you actually been to Ukraine? I'm guessing not based on this statement
5
We're just as embarrassed by you. And for all the obvious reasons.
5
@ You can live anywhere you want to live; if you don't like the country there are hundreds to choose from. And out of curiosity, what AMERICA were you raised to love and honor? Was it the one where we elected a president who had full-on dementia? Which was crazy, but even then it was pretty clear the guy wouldn't last and one term, and he didn't. Also, if we survived Obama, we can survive anything. (P.S. thank our lucky stars Hillary didn't get elected)
4
@ A superpower compared to say.... Monaco.
4
The majority of voters not only realized what Trump would do, they voted for him specifically to do what he promised to do.
4
Legally they won't do that. You should check why that is. Put his name into a search engine.
4
@raintalon6138 That's nothing. Democrats can't define a woman. That's pretty funny stuff, you have to admit.
4
To be fair, Europe seems to be run by children on energy policy, on defense, on protecting their culture and protecting their citizens. And Russia doesn't have the economic strength and logistics to "attack Europe". This is a chimera set up by war mongers. In reality, all the Ukraine had to do was pledge it wouldn't join NATO. That isn't a stretch; the EU refused to admit Ukraine because of the corruption. I ask, what democracy are we protecting in Ukraine?
4
@Hhun804 With the bureaucracy in Europe, they'll blow through that cash just setting up the committee to determine what a pan-Europe defense force looks like. Perhaps it would be cheaper if Europe just allowed free speech and paid 3% of GDP towards their own defense. But it's a choice, and we're all about freedom of choice.
4
@pibroch The war was effectively over about 18 months ago.
4
@AndyM_323YYY Weird post, but enjoyable. 10 points to Gryffindor!
4
It's true that Biden did get his applesauce every day at 3 o'clock. When Joe was good, they'd put cinnamon on his applesauce.
3
@ No one wants to waste a perfectly good weekend protesting the results of a fair election that produced an electoral college landslide for one party and a popular vote majority. It's like protesting the team that won the superbowl.
3
@ You could always move to canada. It's a free country, and it's likely JD Vance will be elected after Trump.
3
Rick likes to make inappropriate phone calls. He's a bit of a freak. You can look that up online.
3
@Ixiah27 I think a lot of the posters here are paid by USAID and Times Radio.
3
@FunkMaster-r7g Yes, because everyone who you don't agree with is a Russian Bot. Do you even know what a "bot" is?
3
I understand there was a lot of agent orange in Viet-nam. That's really too bad.
3
@justonecornetto80 No, he's right. Zelensky is claiming he doesn't know where the money went. But we all know he's been buying expensive homes all over Europe. This will not end well for him.
3
They'd go out of business.
3
@Gogedda204 Interestingly as a citizen of the US, I read these comments from the UK and EU as very entitled .
3
This is actually closer to 1914 than 1941
3
You picked the oddest and creepiest guy to be a hero. Did you look him up on the internet before you crowned him a great guy?
3
@mikec811 Untrue. The US is energy independent. Canada's economy is so small compared to the US that if they stopped providing oil, they'd be in a recession in a month.
3
@ Well, you understand how Obama was sensitive about that, right?
3
@user-rv8wb1nl1b Because everyone who disagrees with you is obviously a "bot". Do you even know what a bot is?
3
@brianferguson7840 Probably Germany. I've never seen a country so intent on self-destruction. The UK is not far behind.
3
Ah, I see in Europe you believe in silencing people who are blunt and tell you the truth.
2
Well, you aren't the "entire world". Nor are the people you go to lunch with. Most people in the EU and the UK wish they had a strong leader who knows how to push back against the bureaucracy and get things done.
2
@ Prior to the Japanese taking all those islands in the pacific, the Dutch has a significant presence in the Pacific. But that was all gone by 1942.
2
No bank will loan a company to mine minerals unless US is protecting Ukraine. So if the EU wants to make the deal, they'll have to set up a government loan to do that.
