Europe would have to dismantle most of it's social programs and back off green energy if that happened. It's the US taxpayer who is enabling those socialized programs. That's the stark reality for you.
74
What presence does Europe have in the Pacific that would be pulled away?
43
It shows the benefit of investing in Defense doesn't it? Russia, absent American military might, could easily take Alaska, bu the price of doing so in reality would be a ruined country for them.
18
Perhaps the push to get rid of coal and nuclear power plants should be rethought in the light of Europe accidentally committing suicide by getting rid of Oil as the primary driver of their economy.
11
It always was predominantly the US
9
Because the Aid provided to Ukraine from the US was a loan.

@ Your culture, family and your children. Europe seems intent on destroying itself and I am genuinely puzzled why you don't see it and take measures to stop bowing to fringe interests.
6
the UK and France already have nuclear weapons, but as a practical matter, nuclear weapons are actually impractical since their use would mean the Russians would retaliate in kind.
6
What do you believe Russia's goals are? Be specific, don't go with some sort of James Bond "take over the world". And why do you think Russia has the GDP or logistics capability of doing it.
5
The irony is that you believe that, despite the evidence in front of you.
5
We're just as embarrassed by you. And for all the obvious reasons.
5
@ A superpower compared to say.... Monaco.
4
To be fair, Europe seems to be run by children on energy policy, on defense, on protecting their culture and protecting their citizens. And Russia doesn't have the economic strength and logistics to "attack Europe". This is a chimera set up by war mongers. In reality, all the Ukraine had to do was pledge it wouldn't join NATO. That isn't a stretch; the EU refused to admit Ukraine because of the corruption. I ask, what democracy are we protecting in Ukraine?

@AndyM_323YYY Weird post, but enjoyable. 10 points to Gryffindor!

@ Prior to the Japanese taking all those islands in the pacific, the Dutch has a significant presence in the Pacific. But that was all gone by 1942.
2
@ Do you realize in the US that calling someone Yankee is a compliment? Unless you're a Mets fan.
2
@ There's no such thing as a scientific consensus . In fact, if someone tells you there is a scientific consensus, they're a politician who is trying to tax you. I'll share this nugget with you. Reducing carbon in the atmosphere is not only futile, there's no scientific basis (a.k.a. "data") to demonstrate it would lower temperatures on earth.
2
This entire conversation is a tempest in a teapot. Lots of clutching pearls, lots of Sturm und Drang. I can almost hear the garments rending from a thousand miles away.
2
Logistically that can never happen now, unless we're talking about starting WW3. And it would be an even messier war that WW2

We love you, but you are hard to like. Kind of like that lazy sibling you have that always needs something from you.

Actually Hungary is a beautiful and peaceful country. Budapest is one of my favorite cities on the continent with perhaps the exception of Paris.
2
@BaumerPaulGefreiter Have you actually been to Hungary? Or are you listening to the press? I am familiar with the dynamic of the country and have spent some time there. You realize the EU is angry at Hungary because it won't take in refugees. I agree with that stance. I like that Hungary encourages families with children and makes it easy to care for those children. I like that they're keeping the country Hungarian. And they have freer speech than the UK at this point. It's a very nice country. It's clean, the people are very educated, and very welcoming to visitors.
2
@ A country so great and powerful that they named the continent after it!
2
@Interglacial_optimist That's awesome! I'll ask them to post some tea if there's a website. Maybe even have the BBC use shortwave to reach directly to American citizens.
1
@user-pu2hc2tw2i Hopefully we're not counting the ship in the middle of the Thames in downtown London.

@ healthcare in the US is at a very high level. I can get an appointment with any type of doctor within 2-3 weeks.
1
@ _ Have US payed us for that???_ The Marshall Plan just entered the chat
1
@ you do realize that American no longer get to just do whatever they want in the world, right? Nah, we'll still do what we want.
1
@ That seems to be a constant theme of not being sure.
1
You can't take the little comedian in charge of Ukraine seriously. He was put in place by the British. He cancelled elections and he's banned the Catholic Church. What "Democracy" are we protecting?
1
@ringrun9872 quiet an achievment I agree you should be quiet about your "achievment"
1
@ Yes, because everyone who is smarter than you is obviously a bot. With that kind of logic, no wonder the world seems like a box of chocolates
1
@ Thank you for your patronage of the greatest country in the world. We truly appreciate it.
1
@ Russia's economy and logistics ability is so poor that they really aren't a threat to Europe. Well, except for those pesky nukes. But their ability to project power is pretty close to zero.
1
@ we are going to decouple That's awesome! Best of luck, Mate.
1
@ I think We'll let you know.
1
Neither would the US agree with Russian or Chinese troops on our borders.
1
We wont' be alone at all. America has taken the world with it's *culture*. We're still the cool kids on the block.
1
@ they will go everywhere where it is soft You mean like a Kardashian girl?
1
The English could help out by producing the English Longbow which was the difference in the Battle of Crécy. So you shouldn't underestimate it.
1
A Kansas fan, I see. Good album.
1
@ I knew someone would bring up the English Longbow again.
1
@ No it was a loan when it passed the senate. As a practical matter there was no way Ukraine could ever pay that back, their GDP could never support that, but Blackrock is already in Ukraine looking into the breadbasket of Russia and the minerals which will become the property of the US, most likely.
