Can you define "broken in"? It seems to fall into the category of "tune up", which everybody uses, but there's no actual definition. There has always been a train of thought that manufacturers specify long oil change interviews so the car/engine will "wear out right after warranty". This makes no sense. If your engine wore out at 50,000 miles when you're expecting 200,000 miles, you'd never buy that car brand again.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say.... It makes no difference. When you drain oil you don't actually drain all the oil, there is enough left in the galleys and in the cylinder that for that 3 seconds it will be fine.

@themotoroilgeek So you're inferring wear rate from the data you get from the analysis of the oil, correct? (sorry if this seem like a basic question).
