@OGZackov Let me 'splain it. He was watching it and making an appearance, which is fine. He's the governor and it's important. But let's not pretend he was commanding the operation. Does that make more sense why it was a funny thing to say?

@hallhv01 You can thank Biden for that. He's the one who signed the deal.
4
Well, it's a DC station. They want the federal workers to watch their channel when they are unemployed.
4
The ship owner is Singapore-based Grace Ocean Private Ltd. *The US cannot seize assets in a foreign country*. There are well-understood maritime agreements about responsibility for damage caused by ships, and they'll be arguing about it for a decade.
4
I appreciate the inherent sarcasm of this question.
4
@ostrich67 The reason they use contractors is two-fold, first they generally get more skilled workers and second, when the contract is over, the contractors are gone. And if a contractor is not doing their job, you just call the agency and they're removed. Trying to remove a federal worker for cause is very difficult.

@Blackronin357 A lot of people in the executive branch are un-elected. Federal workers are un-elected. Department heads are unelected. The reality is not only does Musk have some of the highest security clearances in the government, but the president has created a department within his administration (DOGE) to do this, and he put Musk in charge. This is 100% legal and proper. USAID was created in 1961 using an executive order, and it was ended by an executive order. Let me put this another way. Couldn't the president hire Accenture, or Deloitte, or any of dozens of big consulting firms and do the same thing? This is mainly a talking point because the Democrat party uses agencies like USAID for graft and waste and they see their funding slipping away.
3
@LPRLPR-t2m The US Government should not be the largest employer in the country. And what Musk and team are doing is simply looking through payments and flagging those that appear to be fraudulent or wasteful. And yes, the DOD is on that list. If Trump/Musk is successful, they may be able to balance the budget by simply eliminating wasteful spending throughout the government.

@OGZackov y'all acting like he was pretending he was commanding when he wasn't It was the woman on TV that called it overseeing Let's look up the definition of overseeing , shall we? From Merriam-Webster 1. To watch over and direct (an undertaking, a group of workers, etc.) in order to ensure a satisfactory outcome or performance supervise example: He was hired to oversee the design and construction of the new library with 20 employees Seems like y'all are pretending to be outraged when people are mocking the TV anchor for incorrectly using the word that implied he was actually..... overseeing instead of the more accurate word watching

Isn't the choice to take the buyout or go back into the office?
2
@deeand975 Well, perhaps, but the risk is people could be downsized.
2
Why? I've heard the Federal workers are top-notch and will easily find jobs in the private sector.
2
@hallhv01 Not exactly; in many cases congress allocates a big bucket of money with broad discretion for the administration to spend on it. So no, it's not always the congress that is specific on what the money is meant to do; in fact more often then not the administration makes a decision on how to spend it.
2
Exactly. The country is $36T in the hole right now and like any large entity, unfortunately the workers are the biggest cost to a company and are let go. This happens all the time in private industry.
2
I laughed too. Who knew he was an experienced tug captain? I have a newfound respect for the governor, a man of the sea. Or perhaps he's just good at everything?
2
@OGZackov Calm down sparky. We're not making fun of your boss, we're simply pointing out how funny the TV archor was being implying something that just make her sound silly.
2
75% of the public thinks the federal government should be downsized significantly. Which means a majority of the people are more than happy to own it.
1
@FunkMaster-r7g We don't need luck. Our country is in a superior situation vs you poor Canucks under the thumb of that blackface Trudeau who has raised the cost of living significantly. In fact, our country is so strong, a bunch of people elected Biden, a man who literally had dementia, did his best to ruin the country and we're still better off than Canada. Save your pity for your fellow countrymen who deserve a better government than you have.
1
@FunkMaster-r7g Actually time has already been told. Trump has accomplished more good for the country in two weeks than Biden had done in his entire miserable career in Washington.

What Are the Risks If Federal Workers Accept the Trump Administration's Buyout? You have to find a new job
1
I did consulting over at OPM years ago and it's mostly people reading the newspaper. This guy claims he could easily make more money elsewhere, I suspect he'll find out shortly.
1
@ It is inarguable that it's easier to get rid of a bad contractor than a Federal employee. And in reality if it was that easy to get a bump in salary, every federal employee would do it in a heartbeat. They stay because they assumed it was guaranteed employment unless they try to assault a co-worker
1
mmmm. Bat Soup.
1
News people are so lazy they won't do the basics like... checking FEMA's books.
1
@makaiokalahama Workers represent a fixed cost with a long tail, so every company tries to minimize the number of employees. Programs can be cut (we're seeing that now) but even if the worker does nothing he gets paid. The US government should not be the employer of last resort as it is now. Workers need to be incented with bonuses when they do an outstanding job and fired when they just sit around and only do what they're told.

Now if Pete Buttigig can get a bridge built quickly then that will be amazing.
1
Joe sounded drunk when said that nonsense. His words are slurred. And it is true that they sent $1.5B sent disaster relief to illegals. The money is fungible between the different accounts and they Mayorkas admitted they're almost out of money. How could they be out of money if this is the first hurricane? Unless... they gave it all to illegals.
1
That's if we had a competent federal government. Pete Buttigeig has had over a trillion dollars for 3 years for infrastructure and so far not a single mile of road built nor any EV chargers.
1
State law doesn't override the rules for federal workers. And DC has their own employment board similar to every state.
1
@markrobinowitz8473 Another silly talking point from Democrats terrified their leverage in DC is going away. There is no proof other than Jaime Ratskin claiming this. If he had real proof, he'd show it on TV. You've either been sucked into his silly lies, or aren't very smart. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you were sucked in by one of the most useless congressmen in congress.
1
@sandlotkrew8778 When you have a deficit of $2T, it is money not spent and makes the deficit less worse. Kind of like if you don't spend that $20 on lottery tickets, you just didn't spend as much money.
1
@JTpnoy777 You are simply not liking the facts of the situation.
1
@JTpnoy777 We get it, you voted for Kamala and you have TDS. You may even be a gubmint "worker". But a CEO of a major company can spot fraud, when you see the general ledger and there's no WBS's or even a memo what the expense was for then guess what.... it's fraud. The the GAO has 100's of accountants that couldn't find it, because they're government workers and they're told not to follow GAAP because then it would make it too hard to send money for pet causes without the public knowing about it. So much for getting accountants eh? P.S. Do you have an explanation of how congressmen go from being worth a couple hundred thousand bucks and 6 years later they're worth 20 million?
1
@JTpnoy777 As long as they find fruitful areas to cut, it doesn't matter their age nor their titles. We're $35T in debt with another $2T this fiscal year. There will have to be painful cuts all over the government to even cut the deficit this year in half. This is a good start and you should be grateful there are people willing to do it. The alternatives are all significantly worse.
