Remove the record of their degree from the college records. You still have the knowledge, but you no longer have a degree.

@TerryProthero Understood. The loans generally are a bad idea, and they are pushed on kids because everyone makes money from them except the students themselves

@TerryProthero Terry, have you stopped and thought thought what you're saying? -- you say you can't take the degree away -- And the debt can be discharged in bankruptcy like credit card debt Then wouldn't you expect the banks to do one of two things: 1) Only invest in students with high college boards with great HS grades as well as degrees that will actually get them a job 2) Raise interest rates to mirror credit card rates. You can't simultaneously put no qualifying conditions on a loan, but allow people to discharge the debt in bankruptcy, and then keep the interest rates low. You're almost begging for a federal bailout for people who are not fit to go to college as well as subsidizing degrees that have little or no value in the marketplace.
