The problem is the people who have these loans for the most part are not smart enough to get degrees in Engineering, CompSci, Software development, or other hard sciences.

@jayham65 There is no purpose to them. Colleges have used federally backed loans to increase prices and get under-qualified students into useless degree programs that (a) they probably won't finish (b) and even if they did, they'll never get a well-paying job with the degree.

@dahleno2014 The flaw in your plan is the loans are not forgiven, they are paid by taxpayers. Meaning that people paying taxes, including people who never had a student loan, or worse who paid off their own, are on the hook to support people too irresponsible to pay back their own loan.
8
@dahleno2014 So the rational thing to do is set up a fund to help these people so like-minded people can contribute to the people too irresponsible to pay back a loan they promised to pay back.

@stratmatt22 If student loans could be cancelled by bankruptcy, the interest rates would be 20%.

@Chris-pz4mb That's perfect. If you add a gender and race study minor, you'll be unemployable for even the most menial job.
