Comments by "TeeKay" (@teekay_1) on "'I've Never Seen A Situation Like This': Jim Jordan Questions Powell Over Enhanced Unemployment" video.
@jefferydixson527 Aside from the fact that you're a troubled speller and unclear thinker, taking money from businesses to pay for people to air on their sorry *sses means the money taken can't be used to expand their business, hire more people or buy more inventory. It's a drag on the entire economic system. It's how children think, not how an adult thinks.

@jaccobortiz5303 You cannot pay people more money than they generate or save for the company. When that happens companies either replace people with computers or they go bankrupt.
4
@HereForASeason So the smart ones will take a job now while the pay is high. And the losers who wait will whine "Nobody will pay me lots of money for doing nothing!"
4
@jefferydixson527 Workers do not pay into unemployment, the employer does.
3
@jaccobortiz5303 As I said, they are replaced by automation, and they use fewer high skilled people to do the work. The problem, of course, if this mythical "living wage" was legislated, there would be no place for unskilled workers to go, because you've incented businesses to avoid hiring them.
3
@jefferydixson527 So if people choose not to work, is it everyone else's responsibility to pay for their sloth? These people are no different than a guy who comes up to you on the street with a pistol and demands your wallet. In fact, compared to the slugs sitting at home, the mugger is more admirable because at least he gets off his *ss, figures out how to get a pistol, and he works the street. And he's honest about what he's doing.

@ibberman there is about 1/3 of the population who is satisfied as long as they have a roof over their head, some food, and a TV or computer to occupy them. They are the terminally lazy. These are also the people that complain about "the rich getting richer"
2
@bakshay Nah. He nailed it. Nobody in life is owed anything.
2
@jefferydixson527 So you've made the case for shortening the time for unemployment insurance. Because by your own admission, if they didn't get money for staying at home, they'd take a job that's available.
1
@terryconway7278 Theyre not looking for any job. These people are doing the calculation that "I'm fine now, I get to stay at home and do nothing. Sure if I found a job, I'd get more money, but I'd have to work 40 hours a week and I'd only get a few more bucks". It reminds me of talking to some old guys from Eastern Europe who said they hated when communism fell because they had to get a job because they didn't get their free stipend each month.
1
@Elizabeth-ks1jl That's great. But nobody owes them free money because they've deprioritized work. Sell, the house, move into a small flat. Don't expect other people to take care of you because your "priorities" don't include work.
1
@Elizabeth-ks1jl lol. Let me sell you this bridge I own over the Hudson river.
1
@EclecticBedlam A degree is sociology or psychology is also known as "unemployed".
1
@jefferydixson527 They will when the unemployment is cut off.
1
@Elizabeth-ks1jl a.k.a. "they don't want to work any more". That is their privilege. Unfortunately, they expect the taxpayers to support their new values with a paycheck for doing nothing worthwhile.

If you think the upcoming tax increases are just going to hit rich guys and not you, you have no grasp of history.
1
@jaccobortiz5303 They started doing it a decade ago because Democrats keep saying they're going to raise the minimum wage to unsupportable levels. They're just using common sense. I was in seattle a few years back after they raised the minimum wage for waiters to $15/hour. And they put a sign up that said "we proudly pay our waiters $15/hour so we'll be adding a fee of 15% to your bill to pay for it. And so I left no tip. Obviously they don't need that anymore.
1
@jaccobortiz5303 It's irrelevant. If you're being paid minimum wage it's because that's what the market supports for people with that skill level. And the Center for Economic and Policy Research is affiliated with organized labor. So they're hardly a neutral party.
1
@jaccobortiz5303 If being a CEO and making profits is so easy, why don't you become one?
1
@jaccobortiz5303 Nobody is entitled to a Tip. The justification for tips was that service people only get paid $3/hour, so they really need the tips. Do you tip the McDonalds guy because he took your order and handed you food? What about the guy at Home Depot who told you which aisle was hardware? How about the butcher in the grocery store who cut some meat? What makes the guy in the restaurant so special now that his management has put the tip on automatically?
1
@jaccobortiz5303 They made the claim, it's up to them to prove it with something other than a simple inflation calculator.
1
@jaccobortiz5303 So you're unqualified to the job, admitted that you live off your dad's inheritance, but you know because of your feelings that CEO pay is too much? You probably sit around a talk about how unfair life is, too.
1
@bakshay When I retire some day, I promise not to ask for social security provided the government pays me back the 13% of my salary me and my employer paid on my behalf with 4% compound interest. Deal?
1
@bakshay You can call anything you want, but you disbelieve it because you can't imagine people don't want to steal from their fellow taxpayers in the name of fairness. But to reiterate, I would take that deal in a minute because I'd invest it and do far better than the government which is completely incompetent with money.
