  1. The Europeans were under autocratic rule up to just a century ago. Those habits of fealty to the government apparently doesn't go away very quickly at all. As to "international law", it's not worth the paper that it's written on.

These European leaders imagine themselves sophisticated aristocrats who know better than everyone else, when in reality they're actually tiny tyrants who view their own population as cattle and sheep, and keep them calm with social services they can't really afford. So when Trump calls them on it, they have immediate TDS and apparently are willing to destroy their own country to spite Trump (proving they don't really understand Trump at all).
