I wish I could upvote this about 1,000 times. Every country with "free" chuckle healthcare always suffers from two things: 1) Governments imposed health rationing and 2) wait times designed to make sure you die before you get any expensive treatments. Heck, Canada dropped all pretense and offers assisted suicide as a treatment option for even relatively minor issues like "depression".

With the way public schools are run today, you'd be crazy to send your kids to them. Pushing the rainbow when in many cases kids can't read or do math. It is truly disgraceful. But what you really notice here is the people who run the school and the teachers are looking to innovate in terms of how and what they teach. Public schools are still caught in a 19th century paradigm and both administrators and teacher unions like it that way.

This is being propped up by tax dollars, which ends up going to China, because that's where all this stuff is made. And nobody figures out that the life of a solar cell is at most 25 years at which time they have to be scrapped. And since neither windmills nor solar cells work at night, they spend money on lithium batteries, which have a lifespan of 10-15 year at which time they have to be scrapped. Advocates will tell you they are recycled. But they can't actually tell you who exactly is recycling them. The reality is if they were serious about the planet, they'd push nuclear because despite higher start-up costs, the cost per megawatt over the lifetime of a nuclear plant (roughly 80 years) is cheaper than solar or wind. Turn off the subsidies for wind and solar and watch what actually happens in that market.

With respect to John, in a study, journalists were found to have average or below IQ, but they have a good memory for what they hear/read. Meaning that when journalist interpret what they take in, you're clearly getting their biases because they assume the people they talk with are smart and telling the truth as long as it intersects with their political biases. Most of them have degrees from fine universities which convinces them they're right, as well.

Atlas Shrugged is overall very thought provoking, although near the end the 30 pages of exposition about her philosophy, but please read it. @wrongthinker843 On fascism, yes, people think "fascism" is like a dictatorship. It's not. It's when the state co-opts and favors certain industries to essentially own economic sectors. If you look at China logically without listening to the noise about "communism", you'd consider China a fascist country because each industrial sector is granted state sanction and ownership of the company is granted by the central authority as long as they act at the behest of the central leader. Ultimately communism always becomes fascism because the idea of the people owning the means of production breaks down pretty quickly for obvious reasons.

Frankly, I would trust my insurance company more than any government. There's no such thing as gouging. I get that it feels wrong, but what price hikes encourage is for people to make goods and services available they wouldn't otherwise do. You're not entitled to other people's stuff, and people should be allowed to sell things for whatever the market will bear. In the long run it's better for everybody.

The problem with Lithium batteries is they cannot overcome two significant drawbacks: 1) Poor energy density 2) You cannot charge lithium batteries quickly or you'll compromise their longevity. And to forstall your next "but they're improving..." they will, but it will be marginal gains. It's a SCIENCE problem not an engineering problem.

The big "issue" with SAT scores is that it's the best predictor of college success. That's why it's used. The problem is that about 50% of the people in college today are not college material. College is supposed to be difficult, it's meant for the top 10-20% of IQ. It's meant to be exclusive. Unfortunately with colleges being big business with huge overheads, they need more kids to be sustainable. A liberal arts degree used to mean something 40+ years ago because you had to study a wide variety of disciplines, mathematics, science, literature, philosophy, economics. Today, unless it's in a handful of majors, it's grades 13-16, leaving student in debt with no marketable skills.

The way a rational person would look at it is at least 90% of climate change would be happening today because of natural variations in the climate over time, and up to 10% might be a result of man. And the reality is if the West (North America and Western Europe) stopped all carbon emissions, it would have no impact on the climate. None. Zip.

There's no such thing as "green energy". Every one requires hazardous mining, with toxic materials that have to be disposed of in 25 years. We haven't figured that out yet. And of course, EV's require significantly more copper and other materials that are currently in short supply (EVs are not at all green when you consider the cost to the environment to build them). The only green energy so far is nuclear and the crazies have decided that isn't an option. Their option is "just stop using oil", not understanding that if we stopped using oil, we'd go back to a lifestyle similar to the year 1800. We need to drill for more oil. It will be the primary source of energy until 2100.

Climate Change is really not solvable (even if it was true). So it's a way, particularly for people in the west, to virtue signal while providing a way to allow government to interfere more with our daily lives and our choices on transportation, housing, and spending priorities that are out of wack with reality. Actually, polls show that liberals want nothing to do with conservatives (or libertarians), wouldn't date one, wouldn't associate with one. The vaccines didn't (and don't) prevent the spread, the masks did nothing, unless you wore an N95 correctly, and heart issues in some doses of mRNA vaccines were 1 in 35. And yes, it was made in a lab in Wuhan under the indirect control of NIH.

@jimdavison4077 The old fashioned way. They lied. By counting any death in a hospital where a person tested positive for COVID as a COVID death, and then using that as a sample to extrapolate deaths. Also, the federal government had financial incentives in the way of money for burial for people who were said to have died of COVID.

@jfm148 They don't. They don't enjoy many of the civil rights that are guaranteed to people in the US. Fundamentally, the US system is based on the idea that rights are not granted by the government, they come from a higher authority than government and cannot be abridged by men in power. It's why the US is the only country that has true freedom of speech guaranteed by it's constitution. Same for firearm ownership.

@skipperclinton1087 but not with the economic opportunities. In the US if you have a brain in your head and are willing to work hard, you can be rich. That's why people try to sneak into the US. And most of those ranking ignore some freedoms that Americans hold dear. They count things like "freedom from fear" or "freedom to health care" or nonsense things that aren't actual rights, those are government benefits. Only the US is brave enough to allow free speech. Every other country that claims they do usually have sanctions for "hate speech" or "misinformation", all defined by the government.

John, I know you're eternally optimistic, but clearly our media right now is a conduit for the DNC party line. You could argue that most of the people that go into reading news on the air (they don't get the lofty title of "journalist"), or re-writing press releases from the white house are favorably disposed to the positions taken by the DNC, but you'd think that if they were truly independent, they wouldn't speak with one voice. It's also clear the mainstream press hates people who don't live on the coasts. Someone asked me which mainstream media tried to be fair and balanced in their coverage and my quick answer was "Not a single one".

Here's the problem with these type of companies.... they start out as hacker projects, full of spirit and liberty. And then the guys at the top make a lot of money at it, despite it being a "non-profit". And then they rub elbows with the other rich people in Silicon Valley who are overwhelmingly rich and liberal, and they want to fit in, so you know what happens next... The way to fix this is to stop donating to it. Jimmy Wales will only be convinced when he can't pay for the servers any more and loses his fat salary associated with Wikipedia.

UBI is a dystopian idea that is essentially society giving up on people being productive members of society. The government should be encouraging people to work by only giving assistance if people actually put forth effort. Even if it costs more money than giving them UBI, you need to get people out of government dependence and ensure they work to do a job. If they have no skills, put them to work painting lamp posts, picking up trash, Think of the WPA during the 30s, they did a lot of work in national parks, and it made america stronger because it built a work ethic and avoided getting people trapped by welfare. Anything other than that is slow decay and decline of civilization. It's a terrible idea by billionaires who just don't want the peasants to revolt.
