Good government matters. Sometimes you've got to have hard men (and women) to make the call that you can't solve the world's problems, but if you focus on your own problems, you might actually make a difference to a lot of people.

@sugarkitty4777 OTOH, New Yorkers can't simultaneously say "yes, open the borders" and with the next breath continue "....as long as you keep them somewhere else. If New York is a sanctuary city, then live by your creed, but don't expect someone else to pay the freight for your conscience
30
@alexs1640 "they aren't making sales so they close" Exactly, caused by theft at the store. So you're actually agreeing.
29
@alexs1640 "So if their stores aren't doing well sales wise, are they going to admit that to the stockholders, the board members and the public at large? " Yes, it has to be in the financial statements. If they hide that, the officers of the company can be prosecuted.
24
This is how people raised without any morals behave and rationalize behavior.
7
@coyotestylepro1150 You say that as a keyboard warrior, but when the water cannons come out in mid-january, you'll rethink that.
3
@Gee-xb7rt "operating at loss of around 270k people in 2022" Florida lost people in 2022, but it gained even more for a net growth of 1.9% It still remains the most migrated-to state.
3
@Fredy_The_Yeti " I'm assuming you're giving me the emigration number without accounting for the immigration. " That's exactly what this person did.
3
@Gee-xb7rt You're welcome. You could have also said "Oshiete kurete arigatō", which translates (roughly) to "Thank you for teaching me".
3
@ct4074 It's also a dumb argument. There's no such tax writeoff for theft. It's simply a loss.
3
@aspcia They're not the underdog, but the choice is between Target or no Target. If you truly believe small stores will step into the void left by big stores, and put up with the retail theft by gangs, then one would conclude you live in a different reality than the rest of us
3
The trick is to take a picture of the mayor's car license plate and paste it over your own.
2
@Gee-xb7rt I'm not arguing at all. I'm simply stating facts. What you should have said is thanks for the clarification .
2
@aspcia first of all, you don't get a "tax write off" from theft. Not sure how you believe that. It simply is a cost to the company. Second, self-service at target eliminates what.... 3 employees? And in many cases they don't cut staff they simply put them on another job.
2
@CraftingHock "Blaming Democrats for everything is stupid." For everything? Yes, it's silly. But in this case, Democrat DAs have campaigned on the idea that prosecuting these crimes is racist because it unfairly targets certain minorities. This primarily appeals to liberal women and men who still buy into this idea that unequal outcomes means there is a racist intent.
2
@morpheuslaughing Which is an interesting thought, but is irrelevant to the discussion.
2
@CraftingHock Everybody has to produce enough to pay for themselves or else society falls apart.
2
@mcximus Then we'll have to pay for his food, his rent, his obamaphone, his cable TV & Internet... Maybe better just sentencing them picking up trash alonside the road or painting bridges and such.
2
@CraftingHock There's never a argument that democrats use for raising taxes. To them, it's self-evident. They're meant to appeal to the LH side of the curve and the people who just don't want to work for a living.
2
@CraftingHock NYC was run by Republicans until 2008. It was a lot cleaner, it was a lot safer. Every time a Democrat was elected, it became crime-ridden again. Are you for real? Or just ignorant of history?
2
@madmax6654 Let's determine if it's dividing us or simply that a lot of people want thieves to be let go "because it's racist to criminalize theft". Do you agree with the DA's and police departments in these cities that these types of crimes should not be prosecuted? Simple yes or no answer.
2
@madmax6654 These are local laws, that can be quickly undone. Hold a referendum if the legislature won't act, and if the citizens continue to create laws that encourage theft we can conclude they are irrational and enjoy living in cities without grocery stores or retail shops. Nothing more needs to be done. The problem takes care of itself. If the citizens are rational, arrest the thieves, and put them to work picking up litter and cleaning up cities. Six month stints for shoplifting over $100. Perhaps they will become productive citizens, or perhaps not (in which case they'll keep getting arrested). But either way, they'll do something productive to earn their keep.
2
@smrk2452 The point of locking up people who steal isn't to change their minds, per se, it's really to punish them and raise the bar on consequences for anti-social behavior. It's worked for thousands of years successfully. Not sure why we decided to stop 4-5 years ago.
2
@ohhhhhnooooo Apartment rents were raised in reaction to the government using the force of law to prohibit landlords from collecting rent during COVID and for two years after it was over. Frankly if I were a small landlord, I'd simply let the tenants know at the end of the year it is no longer for rent, offer to let them buy the place, but otherwise, they'd have to leave.
2
@eggsamillion In NYC, a crazy homeless guy started attacking people and a hero (a guy) came to their rescue. They prosecuted the guy who came to their rescue. The DA only relented after a public outcry.
2
@Applecider-Poetry Silly argument. You have no idea that it "barely affected them". And frankly theft is a safety problem for employees. And the big reason is rational people don't want to do business in morally bankrupt cities.
2
In 10 years, there won't be any rental units available, so NYC will raise taxes to pay for "affordable housing". And that will happen because corporations will dump the buildings and accept the loss, and it will be sold to under-capitalized companies who won't provide proper maintenance, the city will sue the new companies and they'll simply declare bankruptcy because they already made their money. And they won't be able to come after the investors, because it will done through a company chartered in the Caymans. And everybody will still vote for the people who caused the problem, and it will get worse and pretty soon, you'll have Detroit East.
1
Do you really need to ask why?
1
@felipenunez2058 No, it's just because nobody wants to live in these sh*thole countries (especially venezuela with their gawdawful government) and the lure of free stuff from Democrats that we're having these problems. You act like this is an accident of policy. Actually Democrats policy is to encourage illegal infiltration of the border. We should take a page out of Eisenhower playbook on how he dealt with illegals. And of course go back to a merit-based immigration policy.
1
@RunninUpThatHillh No one is keeping them there.
1
@RosolinoLoSciuto-ee3gv La nostra politica non dovrebbe basarsi sulle nostre emozioni
1
@Gee-xb7rt Anata ga watashi ni totemo hika rete iru koto ni watashi wa miryō sa rete imasu
1
@aspcia Then it will never happen. You can't name one large city with competent leadership these day.
1
@bl1429 The other problem though is even private security guys will be arrested if they use force on these criminal denizens of these communities, so it represents a huge liability for them either way. That's why they're closing. And one or two people whining about "under served communities" means nothing against potential criminal action against a corporation for simply protecting their property against a a system that is geared to protect people who steal from them. To put it more simply, these people won't police their own, so why should the company even bother with them?
1
The mayor learns what happens when you cross this administration too. Bet he's wishing he didn't criticize the overlords in DC now for allowing unchecked immigration into the country.
1
@sdlausen1 Indeed. And for all that money Joe and company handed out, they've inflated the currency so much we're at the same place where we started, but now we're screwed because a loaf of bread is $4 and a box of cereal is $7. So you add a half gallon of milk and you're up to $15 for bowl of cereal. Then the press has the audacity to ask "why don't those stupid people out there understand how successful bidenomics is?"
1
@AlwayzFresh "Fighting back" = Petty Theft Just translating for the left hand side of the bell curve.
1
@madmax6654 "I can show you where Republican states or things are happening as well" We're talking about *cities*, and yes, you are invited to show us a Republican led city where these things are happening. We'll wait while you gather your material.
1
@Ah__ah__ah__ah. The accident of being born doesn't entitle anyone to anything.
1
@CraftingHock Democrats don't need an excuse to raise taxes on productive people.
1
@CraftingHock Who is suggesting such a thing? The problem is DAs who won't prosecute criminals because consequences are apparently races.
1
@CraftingHock Costco has self-service checkout.
1
@morpheuslaughing "So is walking into a store and shooting everyone" Interesting thought, but we punish that. And it happens so infrequently that it makes the nightly news. Large-scale shoplifting happens so frequently that it rarely makes the news, except when stores leave cities, and then they get an "expert" on camera who explains "it has nothing to do with people stealing", and they'll point to Costco, ignoring the fact that Costco's average customer earns well north of $100K per year.
1
@CraftingHock Hard to check receipts when stuff is jammed down people's pants or stuffed in their coat.
1
@madmax6654 Oklahoma is a State, New York, Oklahoma and Miami are cities. Reset and try again.
1
@chelo2626ify This problem started in roughly 2020
1
@alexs1640 A. You're claiming that the entire chain is losing money, but Target is closing individual stores and only lying about the reason why. But they're not closing all the stores, just the ones where people are stealing a lot, but that theft is unimportant when you consider how much money they're making. And all of this is hidden in the financial report, because .... Trump or something Or B. Target has found that because of changing laws in Democrats cities where they don't prosecute thieves, Target has discovered these stores in the hood aren't worth keeping open.
1
@julienalexander6113 Albuquerque is more of a crossroads than a city. You can see that from the air in a balloon.
1
The whole "domino" theory is proving correct in seattle and los angeles. Then these thieves and their enablers will argue that these companies are racist.

Back when Rockefeller ran the place, New York's welfare was so attractive, it was a beacon for lazy people across the United States.
