@terencesullivan3286 Actually cutting spending is a necessity. There's not enough money in the US to pay for the deficits we're running, unless your goal is to punish the most productive people in society.

@Rhythmattica ...and reduce spending. Our spending is out of control. No use raising the debt, unless it's for a month until DC comes to it's senses. We've apparently given the credit card to a bunch of drunkards in DC who believe there's no way for the rest of the world to move away from the Dollars. Everybody will have to tighten their belt.

@doujinflip I do. Anybody who says they want to spend on something instead of cutting doesn't get my vote.

@terencesullivan3286 Yes, but there are limits (I think 10K per year). But even with downturns, you're still better off in equities and accept it will go up and down, but over time you'll do better than inflation.

@bloodgout All of that, and a lot more. Just keep spending the same as 2022 for four years. No keeping up with inflation, no extra "for the children". Anything extra you use to pay down the debt. Then we'll consider increases at no greater than the rate of inflation.

History shows the side that is willing to hold firm in these debt ceiling discussions always get significant concessions from the other side.

@theyux1 The problem is typical republicans talk a good game, but in the end, they have the same goals at the democrat party. So they weren't willing to hold firm. On the other hand, the tea party also derailed most of Obama's destructive agenda, so in that regard, they were a success.
