  1. Since there is no Soviet Union anymore as has Peter has pointed out many times, Russia is bereft of a competent military. Add on the fact that Germany built a pipeline to Germany that we blew up, it seems a rethink of the relationship is in order, particularly as the EU doesn't want to pay for the US to defend them. They'd rather spend it on social programs instead. So if you really think about it, we're paying for the EU's generous social programs. Makes you feel warm all over doesn't it?
