NEVER BUY A PORSCHE! A FRIEND BOUGHT ONE AND IT COST $10,000 JUST FOR A TUNE UP!!!!!! NEXT UP, THE TOP 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER DO WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION!!!!!!

Neither plugs nor brakes should be done by the dealer. Both are easy, high-margin items. I also note that the oil drain plug is stripped, another dealer specialization.

Two of the issues with every EV is that many of the parts are serialized to the car and the parts are only available from the manufacturer, and they won't necessarily sell you any of the parts.

I realize no one will read this, but I've had Japanese cars for decades and never an issue with Sun roofs. German cars all have problems with sun roofs. Further, the only way to fix this issue is to get a new carpet. It will get moldy. A friend bought a cheap 6 series because someone spilled something noxious on the carpet. He tried everything, but eventually he pulled all the seats out, bought new sound insulation and carpet and fixed it permanently. Cost him less than $1K to fix.

I'd go for the Merc estate. It would be a great long-distance cruiser and if you wanted to sell it, it would be gone within 2 days.

Notice the clock is running backwards, too.

@cbruno12180 It doesn't work that way in real life. They would refuse any further work until he paid his bill, nor would they release the car (mechanics lien). And you can threaten them with lawyers and court and they won't care because they've heard it already 10 times that week.

@brokenstereotype I think that's the right approach. In fact, you could probably get an industrial version of a Raspberry Pi that would do quite well, put an I/O controller around it, and then write some software. Easier said than done, yes but that would be the solution to these small volume older cars.

@Quasam I get that, but you could control an engine with an 6502, there's nothing happening that quickly in an engine. The only reason you'd use an embedded processor for this is because it's cheaper.

The color was not a good choice. You should have picked a factory shade that looks better (there's a nice blue on the i8). This paint color reduced the value of the car, as the audience for this car is not the one who wants custom shades. People who want Ferrari's and Lamborghini's are not buying this car. I watched the entire fix/rebuild yesterday, but this episode didn't end it on a positive note.

@HannibalACP82 There is a thumbs down.

The 650 BMW is pretty nice, although the V8 engine has some quirks that you need to check. At 145K miles, just say no. You can easily put $5K into a car like that between the cooling system, and oil leaks and something else that is broken that doesn't really break on modern cars.
1
I'm a little confused where you "found" a disaster. You could tell from a distance the only rational thing to do with that car is part it out.
1
A BMW with a cooling system issue? UNPOSSIBLE!!!!

If German cars were reliable the dealerships where they sell them wouldn't be profitable. True story... Jags were so terribly unreliable in the 80's/90's Jag announced they were going to simplify and greatly improve reliability to get them on a par with Japanese cars, and the dealers were very concerned because that's the only way they make money.

Did you have Ford do the wiring harness recall?
1
@Cabbagedood That's too bad; I don't think you're the only one who had this issue; the first year into part of the second year had their problems with that harness.
1
"tranny issues", as he shows bud light
1
@waty0usay1 lol. German cars as reliable.... for about 60K miles.
1
Why would you just not part it out? Even if you fix it, the market is pretty small for these things, especially one without a clean title.
