They're great for a college paper, or if you're citing measurable data, but if you're relying on citations from social science (which is an ironic phrase, since there is no science in social science), In this case JD Vance wrote about his personal experience from having lived the life that he referred to in his book. So @ronstiles2681 is correct. You are incorrect.
