  1. While Japan has been an effective one party state for most of its post war history, it ruled by consensus without a protest from other parties. Corruption was always endemic as it was based on the US system. Payoffs by politicians goes back to the immediate post war era. The bigger shock is that it has taken this long for the public to realise.

The same applies to General Motors. The hostility towards China by the US government is making the Chinese public favour Chinese brands as a result of US government actions.
