Alex, I think that operational encirclement means they can rain artillery fire on roads in and out of Bahkmut even if not physically closed by actual encirclement.

@tatfly5779 it still means that it’s effectively closed to Ukraine if your vehicles get destroyed by anti tank missiles. You could sneak out but that’s still dangerous.

@tatfly5779 I do completely agree with you where the area under control is larger or smaller. If the distance from one pincer to another is less than 5km and completely in line of sight then yes it’s completely denied to the Ukrainians. If over 20km then I agree it’s debatable if it’s completely under Russian control especially if there are line of sight issues along the road. Drones could make it difficult for any Ukrainians to escape even if there are gaps in line of sight from each pincer of attack. I don’t think that the Russian satellites are behind the USA. We have little information about them but they are able to attack targets well behind the front lines.

The seizure of assets owned by foreigners will accelerate the decline of the west. No business from the global south will want to hold assets in the west if they can be arbitrarily confiscated when they decide to sanction a country. We all know China is the next big target, so will businesses hold assets in Europe if they trade with China?
