  1. Why China and Vietnam Have Fallen Out? You've asked the wrong question. It's never been good in the first place so you can hardly describe it as 'have fallen out'. Reason? China has always been trying to eat Vietnam alive since the third century BC until...right now as we speak. Just look at China's 10 dash line that claims the WHOLE freaking South China Sea! People who don't really know history between the two countries have been mistakenly thinking that they were very close in the First and Second Indochina Wars but they're really ain't! Because even when China was still very weak relatively compare to the US and USSR, and needed to help Vietnam to kick westerners out of Indochina for its own good, it has never forgotten to come up with schemes and plans to rule over Vietnam and eat her alive! By sending aid, China expected North Vietnam to follow it around in every move like an obedient dog and against the USSR who had helped China a lot and was also helping Vietnam at the time! When Vietnam refused to be a dog, an ingrate against the USSR like China, it got really mad and plotted its revenge right away! China also didn't want a unified Vietnam. For China, a divided Vietnam like North/South Korea was an ideal scenario because a unified independent Vietnam wouldn't have any reason to listen to China! When it saw the unification was inevitable, it attacked and seized the last half of the Paracel Islands in 1974 just to be sure. China had also backed Pol Pot to build a Chinese faction inside the Khmer Rouge since 1970. They grew strong with China's aid and purged all the Vietnamese faction and started attacking and killing Vietnamese troops in Cambodia in 1973 and started invading Vietnam's territories, ki ling thousands of people inside Vietnam's border right after it completely controlled Cambodia in 1975.
