@noticedruid4985 Learn history before opening your mouth. Pol Pot was supported by the US, UK, China, Thailand, Singapore in the UN even AFTER Vietnam had already defeated it in Cambodia. The European socialist bloc didn't support it.

There is only one truth, and the Vietnamese version is the truth. The US version is just propaganda. And you haven't accurately conveyed the truth. The Geneva Accords in 1954 didn't divide Vietnam into two separate states. That's a lie! You're just repeating US propaganda. The Accords appointed the 17th parallel as a temporary 'demarcation line' to divide arms groups to end hostility and prepare the whole country for a general election coming up in two years. Both Vietnamese governments at the time, the State of Vietnam under Bao Dai and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam under Ho Chi Minh were against division (if there was an intention) of Vietnam, and claimed the whole of Vietnam so the Accords stipulated that general election would be held in 1956 in the whole country to peacefully unite THE GOVERNMENTS and choose the new leader for the entire country. Propaganda means misleading information or lies, so the North didn't use 'propaganda' as you said. On the other hand, the US did use it to confuse the urban population in the South. You are repeating the US' propaganda that the Geneva Accords divides Vietnam into separate states.

@LocalDeepstateAgent It doesn't count because 'South Vietnam' was a phony country created by the US against the will of Vietnamese people North and South! You don't barge into a sovereign country, create a puppet state and 'defend' it! It's lame! And imagine in the US' Civil War, some stronger country brings half a million troops in to mass murder Americans north and south using the excuse of backing the South. Would that be justifiable?!

They are just a minority and half of them fought on the Vietnamese side. If they were killed, they were probably in some militia groups fighting alongside the US. North Vietnamese troops didn't go around mass murdering women and children like US soldiers because they didn't even have enough ammunition to kill Americans and they're simply not animals like US soldiers. So you cannot in any way equate them to evil of US troops. Yes, you're a ficking liar clear and simple. If there are atrocities committed by the North Viets, many historians should have known and they don't. The so-called Hue massacre was a propaganda ploy cooked up by the Saigon puppet regime and the US to drown out the news of the My Lai massacre when it broke out. @vascotank2143 The US supported the seat of Khmer Rouge in the UN, fed, and gave order to Thailand to sheltered it so that was a BIG and direct help. The Khmer Rouge started by itself and became popular because of US' backed coup of Sihanouk and bombing in Cambodia. The DRV were only friendly and helped it BEFORE it committed genocide in Cambodia. The US became friendly and helped it AFTER the genocide. That's why the US, not the DRV, is sick an evil.

@Cormac131 Why don't you count the military ones?! Military deaths on both sides of Vietnam were over 1.35 millions, so the total is 3.35 millions. @vascotank2143 Giving food and shelter for the Khmer Rouge to live and fight for another 10 years and backed it at the UN IS a tremendous help. You can't deny it with a lame excuse of 'humanitarian'! Since when the racist, genocidal, murderous government of US cares about civilians or humanitarian, especially in South East Asia?! It dropped half a million tons of bombs on Cambodia and directly killed hundreds of thousands Cambodians in the early 1970s. It put economic sanctions on Cambodia to starve the WHOLE population after Vietnam liberated it just to give Vietnam a hard time. The Khmer Rouge killed millions Cambodians and it continued to support it seats in the UN, not to mention millions of Vietnamese killed by its bombs and massacres. SO, it clearly never gives a fick about civilians, but only used them as a front to house and feed the Khmer Rouge. That's the real story. Yours is just stupid propaganda. Don't bring China in here to cover for US' crimes. We all agree that China helped Pol Pot, but it can't order and fund Thailand to shelter the Khmer Rouge, only the US can, because Thailand was a US' dog. As the host country, Thailand can easily screen the refugees and separate the Khmer Rouge's fighting forces from women and children and take away all the weapons, but it didn't, because the US wanted to feed and house the Khmer Rouge so they can fight Vietnam for it! The Khmer Rouge had no where else to go. BTW, the Khmer Rouge ambush tactics was trained by the SAS of the UK, not China.

They went to western Europe to joint the lucrative drug trade over there (because capitalist countries tolerate drug trade) and would go back to Vietnam in a few months filthy rich! They owned houses and lands in Vietnam and got a lot of money to pay for their illegal trips to Europe so they're not poor. They just wanted to make quick and large sums of cash. They were traitors who supported the French so of course they fled south with the French! What's the problem here?! The Geneva Accords allows free movements in two years awaiting general election. It doesn't force anybody to move if they don't want to. So the communists in the south have every right to stay because the south is their home! Diem only made up, exaggerated stories to justify his mass murder of communists in the south. The people killed in the Land Reform in the north were landlords who mistreated, murdered peasants under French rule. They served the French and commit crimes against the population, so many of them deserved it. They would face much worse fate if they were in France during its revolution! The communists was too lenient! The DRV's government didn't condone it. It did intervened and stopped the killing and that's why it's still widely supported. Not only Diem had no good reasons to killed communists in the south, but in fact, he totally owed his president chair to the communists. If they didn't kicked the French out, the Americans had no reasons and couldn't bring him back to take Bao Dai's chair when he's still backed by the French! What a ficking ingrate! Unlike Ho Chi Minh, he had no support in the south among the population or even among his own subordinates. They were just scared of his brutal tactics and waited for a chance to kill him! That's why it only took them two days to overthrow, and execute him and his brother like two stray dogs! The Vietnamese has made their easy and proper choice between a clueless psychotic dictator and a man who led them to independence. It's a no brainer. Only tools with no brain like you would see otherwise or question it!

What is your day job? How do you have time to hear stories from 'countless' minority people living scatteredly in a big country like the US? @ThatAirplaneGuy2000 The draft didn't start until December 1969, over 4 years into the war, and many went for 2, 3 tours, so there were plenty of brainwashed tools did believe the idiotic propaganda line of 'I'll fight the commies there so I don't have to fight them on the street of San Francisco'. There're still plenty of them now believe the war was necessary too, so you just don't need and can't deny at least the majority was brainwashed! Even many of the draftees believe they did something good too because they just plain stupid and brainwashed! The atrocities was the rule, not the exception. Back then, the US was just like the Nazis on occupied lands. If some of them got killed, their rule was to take it on the population. From the higher up, they pressured the officers with a certain number of enemy killed, so the officers forced the foot soldiers to kill indiscriminately to meet those numbers. The presidents knew it but it was what they wanted to do too because that was their way. They wanted to terrorize the population into submission. They are the mother of ALL terrorism.

Not everybody got brainwashed back then, like Clinton, Bush Jr., Trump, or Muhammad Ali and a lot of others will do anything to avoid going there. 'Just follow orders' is a very lame excuse. After WWII, many Nazis did use the 'just follow orders' excuse at the Nuremberg trials and it wouldn't cut it and they were hung anyway, so just save it!

CORRECTION: No words in the Geneva Conference stipulated that Vietnam was to be divided into two states with two different ideologies or regimes. On the contrary, it clearly stated that the demarcation line at the 17th parallel was only temporary. It only served the purpose of dividing opposing forces to end hostility and for the French civilians and military to withdraw back to France. It could not be interpreted as a political division and the country must hold general election in 1956 to establish her official government of the whole Vietnam.

If you're really interest in history and honestly want to tell it as it is, you should not keep on repeating the US' propaganda about the Geneva Accords of 1954. Please read the documents yourself. Nowhere in those documents stipulates and nobody talks about the division of Vietnam into two separate states. Both Vietnamese governments at that time, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the French puppet State of Vietnam claim the whole Vietnam and oppose any division. In fact, the Accords specifically say that 'the military demarcation line is provisional and should not in any way be interpreted as constituting a political or territorial boundary.' So you're completely wrong when you said the division into two separate states was a result on the Accords.

When they were there, they robbed the lands clean and enslaved the indigenous people without a slightest remorse! In fact, they didn't even consider those people humans! In the past, they used the excuse of 'liberating' or 'reclaiming' the 'Holy Land' to rob that land and all those lands along the way. In colonial time, they used the excuse of bringing Christianity and civilization to all corners of the world, again, to rob. In our time, the slogans for robbing are 'freedom' and 'democracy'. There's one thing in common then and now. All those places are much worse off after the west's 'noble' crusades. There's no good ending when the west start saying they care about someplace! If you don't know history, you can still at least remember Iraq, Libya, or Syria, right? So from now on, you should shut the crap about 'freedom' or 'democracy'. Whatever they have right now, it's a million times better than when the west had its way! Moreover, are you sure the west really have that thing call 'democracy' or 'freedom' there?
