  1. G'day Ian. At 5:40 the hole is the Ford Shaker Hood. Also used first in lots of US muscle cars. Air scoop mounted on the engine so moving with the engine. At 7:00 yes a Valiant Charger.

  2. When Conrod was all a straight I understand most cars needed to back off before the last bumps on the straight so as not to be launched into the air too much.

  3.  @kaypotter2867  yes the Chrysler 265 Hemi. In ultimate E49 form with triple Weber carbs it made 302 HP off the showroom floor.

  4. The Falcon GTs HO was originally HO for High Output internally at Ford but changed it to Handling Options so as not to upset the Government and media too much. Only minor or no handling upgrades to the XY GT but lots of high output power upgrades. Did not state the power for the same reasons.

It was the article in a Sydney Sunday Newspaper about the 160mph supercars like the XA phase 4 that started the pressure that stopped the phase 4 , XU1 V8 and Charger 340 four speed from the big three Headline and dates can be seen here : https://youtu.be/si1dSF0VN4s A big shake up with government threats not to buy fleet cars if these race specials were sold to the public. Government fleet sales were the biggest market for the big three.

  17. XY gtho phase 3 was put on the market in 1971 just in time for Bathurst 71. Late production so competition did not have enough time to respond. A 2009 race for NC historic cars.

  19. Mini Cooper S win and places one to nine was only in 1966 the year before the first Falcon GT was made. They did beat the V8 drum braked Valiants and Studebakers that were faster on Conrod and Mountain straights. The Mini Cooper S never won outright again at the Bathurst 500 or 1000.
