So how did you convert the US colour TV from the US colour standard of NTSC to the Australian PAL standard?

The US had the first colour TV broadcasts in June 1951. However it was s near disaster as TV manufacturers did not like the system used and mostly did not make the expensive sets. So only tiny numbers saw these broadcasts. The huge majority of people could not even see the system on their incompatible black and white sets. Took until later in the fifties for a better system to develop and become the US standard and be more widely adopted. Australia was late to colour as they wanted to adopt the very best system available rather than the low quality pioneering system that the US got stuck with. By 1975 colour TV sets were much more affordable in real terms than the first B&W here from 1956. Same for TV companies buying cameras etc for colour. So some benefits of waiting.

A test broadcast of colour TV from 1968 from the Royal Melbourne Show ( like US state fairs ). : https://youtube.com/watch?v=NjiAprY1JuU&feature=share7 Less than ten years later the young performer, Jamie Redfern, would be performing in Las Vegas.

Lots of extra info in the description of this.

The US was actually 24 years earlier in 1951. But a big disaster that had to be replaced after four years or so. Some explanations on YouTube.

A US disastrous launch in 1951, then about four years later a better system became the US standard.. YouTube vids cover it.
