Examination of Victoria Police pursuit methods and outcome : https://youtu.be/VkdomRLEOv8 Although not mentioned too much here as important.

Yeah don't stop the pursued , with the result of letting them drive into the Bourke Street pedestrian mall in Melbourne and mow down and kill many including a six month old kid in a pram.

Station wagons were rare in Australia until the FE model Holden Special Station Sedan were released in March 1957, marking the first time that Holden had included a wagon in its range. Holden did not call these station wagons until the 1969 HT model. I think Holden wanted to avoid the horse drawn wagon or railway wagon connotations. Also lots of states would register station wagons as commercial vehicles with higher registration charges and even a few restrictions on the roads they could use. Only Holden used the station sedan term, even though the public used the term station wagons. I may get some comments that "we always called them station wagons" ignoring the Holden literature and advertising. Holden did not change the mind of the registration authorities with the term station sedan either. Once Holden released the station sedan they became extremely popular partly to show you could afford the flasher station wagon version. For quite a while of the station wagons on the road over 50% were Holdens. Holden with 1969 HT model finally realised the term station wagon did not have the negative aspects they thought. If someone calls them an estate then it is unlikely they are Australian. Drivetribe being UK based and having this view of the world.

Coroner's report on the Victoria police policy on just tailing a car and not taking them out : https://youtu.be/1eDkdimGntQ Not much has changed despite this. This reality swamps all the pretty colours.

Every response here is describing their own state and perhaps thinking it is like that in the whole country. Surprised by some saying the still see plenty of Commodores. Must have different enforcement policies to Victoria. When the Commodores need replacing there will be no GM product to replace them. So the end of an era and will be missed by many of the Police.
