Another vote for Jack Brabham being best. Triple world champion and in his own car for one of them in 1966 with an Australian built world beating Repco engine he organised. Team mate Denny Hulme won in 67 because Jack kept the less tested new parts for himself. Otherwise he could have won in 67 too. Bad luck in a few races stopped him being World F1 champ again in 1970. Alan Jones mainly lucked into driving the great Williams car in 1980, although a good driver he never achieved what Jack did any very likely no one ever will.

G'day Ian. At 6:38 you ask what the little car is. Seen again spun round at 9:24. It is a British Ford Anglia that was sold here in the early sixties as Ford's cheapest economy car. More detail from this vid including how the Anglia was successful in motorsport including later in it how they were modified extensively with a range of engines for Sports Sedan racing ; https://youtu.be/JjOkmu4xwiY Later called the Ford Uglia as a joke because of its Detroit inspired looks. Even used as an unliked Police car in Victoria for menial tasks. Low cost helped people go motor racing without a lot of money before all the big money cars started dominating. The first motor used in the Anglia was the start of Cosworth by tuning them to much higher power leading to Cosworth eventually dominating formula One with the DFV V8 and having many Indy 500 wins.

Peter Brock actually got his start in motor racing in Sports Sedans from the little Austin A30 that he built as a sports sedan with a Holden 179 six cylinder motor. Had a super high winning rate. Original lost but here is the replica that Peter was involved in building : https://youtu.be/4aK70zmlo0Y And a rare interview of Peter talking about the sports sedan he built ; https://youtu.be/fQiLMYfTR4Q I remember watching him on channel 0 Melbourne winning lots of races at Phillip Island beating far more expensive cars. He soon got noticed by Harry Firth when forming the Holden Dealer Team.
