Another local car auction house in Australia is Shannons. Recent auction high lights : https://youtu.be/PH9jeWB0xug I wonder if Americans go mad for low numbered number plates? In Australia you can keep them permanently and move them from car to car. Although the high value ones just stay in safes.

@IIIPronGIII about half way through this the guy points out the only visible difference is the GT HO on the glovebox and the front and rear spoilers : https://youtu.be/rYwpM3hag90 Similar story with this one showing the build plate with tiny GT HO lettering but the other external badges and stripes are identical with the GT : https://youtu.be/VAQBpavVs-g So maybe you remember the glovebox lid as a passenger. A few others on YouTube show the glove box lid also being lettered but nothing outside for HO.

Ian glad you liked this. The Falcon XY GT HO was the car Alan Moffat won the 1971 race with. As you covered in your 1971 Bathurst vid of Alan Moffat in car film a few days before the race running about 80% of race speed. The now unusual tyres look like the standard Dunlop Aquajets that came with these cars. Supposedly good at clearing water for safety road use, but off the market in a short time. Never saw a beige Vinyl roof on performance Ford's. More common on the luxury Falcon based Fairmont and Fairlane cars of the era. Friend bought an LJ Torana XU1, mint condition, for 15k in the early nineties. He thought he did well selling it for 30k ten years later to buy a boat. Maybe his would be worth 200k or more now.

I recall, and a search confirms, that in 1971 they sold for s $5250 sticker price (plus on-road costs) and you would have to chase down a dealer that had one. So even more of a bargain. Seems cheap now but then the price would be a years wages for most. Then the fuel cost and insurance costs would hit you hard too.

Never saw a vinyl roof on any HO Falcons either.

Almost certain the tyres are the standard Dunlop Aquajets : https://youtu.be/yAFPHQ2T1qE

Surprising that amount for a fifty year old car. Very rare to have much expenditure, interest and discussion in 1971 for a 1921 car. A fifty year difference then.

Might be a tribute car clone to be out in use. Would still want one of the price was right. An older teacher friend of mine had a very good condition XY Fairmont six. His students were always at him to sell the car in the nineties. So even then people had plans for XYs at a good price. Fairmont trim closer to GT spec.

That's what I recall as standard then. Hope to find my XY Falcon broucher to confirm. Hinted at in this ad for Dunlop Aquajet SP tyres. : https://youtu.be/yAFPHQ2T1qE Some comments say Uniroyal which seems an aftermarket tyre that I had never heard much said about. Deep in another HO review story they mention standard Aquajets.

Only 300 XY HO made. Helps confirm my memory that only 200 cars needed to be built. With 650 no XY HO could qualify.

Although the XM and XP models from the mid sixties look very foreign to US eyes.
1
That implies an Australian dollar will buy you 77.5 cents. The rate is down to only 72 cents per Australian dollar. Before banks give you less with their margins. Easier to ballpark multiply by 0.3 and deduct that. Changes every day.

Another must see video for anyone interested in the Ford Falcon XY GT HO and the lead up cars : https://youtu.be/sOQd1vT794s Partly explains why so much interest.

Not a shame in one way. We don't want overseas buyers making the ones left even more unaffordable and disappearing out of the country now they are no longer made here.
1
The 500 built criteria for racing seems high since only 300 XY GT HO cars were made.

Yes I guessed the price since I watched the auction live on YouTube. Also pervious recent auctions they have gone for these million dollar prices. Cheaper for US buyers sort of. Ballpark take 25% off for US dollars. Whole auction available on YouTube for a while if you have a spare eleven hours ; https://youtu.be/d0BrfiBaK1U A few million plus Holden's too but some after the auction. Interesting how you had previously passed over the boxier XY GT HO not knowing how rare and desiresble the hoeys are here. Luck for us as some of the later coupes get bought by Americans and disappear but not any earlier cars I have seen.

Thought Dunlop Aquajets SP were standard then . One of many tyres with the red wall option then.

Almost certain the standard Dunlop Aquajets : https://youtu.be/yAFPHQ2T1qE

Here is where Ian covered this car doing demo laps with a cameraman riding in the car. https://youtu.be/TdWbjk3gOqk A few days before Alan Moffat won the race in car like this and very near showroom condition. Well at least compared to later years and now.

Do not recall any factory HO badging. All the upgrades not too visible other than the easily faked chin spoiler.
