  1. Trick or treat only gradually catching on here in the last forty years. Supermarkets etc encourage it to sell more stuff. I have moved to a new house a few years ago so did not want to be labelled a Grouch, so not wanting kids with too many unhealthy lollies played a trick instead. Hard to disappoint real little kids, certainly not going to use the C word approach or anything too aggressive. When the kids knocked at the door I offered them a plate of nice washed baby carrots. Helps clean their teeth and a bit nutritious. I was surprised that they really liked the carrots as did their parents. Either very polite or health concious kids in my new area so either way worked out well. A trick and a treat at the same time. The surprising defenders of Halloween here are people of Scottish ancestry where it came from.

  2. Still lots of fish and Chip shops in Victoria. Has been for about a hundred years or more like the UK. Proper chips not French fries.
