The pies and sausage rolls you had were a bit larger than the normal fast food pie in Australia for at least a hundred years or more at the football and cricket or for lunch on a site or at school. So the comments about eating without cutlery are more for smaller pies you hold in your hand and not these larger family size pies usually cut up and shared.
