Ian, the change in currency to Australian dollars and cents was a big deal back then. Film on Australia preparing to change from pounds shillings and pence currency and why giving the example of how difficult currency arithmetic was with pounds shillings and pence or LSD as it was often abbreviated to. https://youtu.be/5ZTeWLA1LAs Even grade four schoolkids would have to learn that arithmetic before decimal currency. The song was heard so much and so catchy that Australians over a certain age can still sing the song or at least remember the change over date of the 14th of February 1966.

Echidna also commonly called the spiny ant eater in times past but less so today. I would not be so pedantic to call Spiny Ant Eater wrong. Even the then treasurer and future Prime Minister, Harold Holt, called it a Spiny Ant Eater when describing the soon to be released first decimal coins for the five cent piece. : https://youtu.be/Qnmp-da-U6E A not so fun fact that after a year or two being Prime Minister he went for a swim into the ocean off a semi private surf beach and his body has never been found. The local council of his electorate commemorated his name by naming a public swimming pool after him.

More coverage after changeover day : https://youtu.be/x-RiX5NCn8w $5 a later useful addition. No $50 and $100 bills then. Thinking was no one would need a note as big or bigger than a week's wages then. Inflated prices today would have them in shock.
