  1. Back sixty years ago in Australia a roast chicken was on the expensive side and served on special occasions like Christmas. Still common to have roast chicken at Christmas here. Even though heading towards peak summer heat. Turkey and duck much rarer, but a cooler seafood meal more common. Fried chicken from KFC for a few who can't cope with cooking and just buy takeaway all year anyway.

  2. Peanut butter widespread in Oz. Even sixty years ago Kraft peanut butter was on shelves alongside Kraft Vegemite. ETA was another top selling brand. I know this since I have over sixty year old collectable peanut butter jars that when empty convert to drinking glasses. Collectable because they have human type peanuts playing cricket printed on the jar. Given to me by my grandmother when a child.   3.  @Reneesillycar74  they dropped the laws after ten or twenty years, but for a while it caused confusion when people from those states asked for peanut paste in other states. Search for Queensland bans peanut butter will show more detail.

  4. Introduced to Australia not long after in 1898. Later dairy industry objected to the term butter, so in Queensland, SA and WA it was changed to Peanut Paste to comply with state laws around 1930.

  5. I though so but I found this : HP Sauce is similar to A1 steak sauce, but it's definitely not the same thing. Let's take a look at the ingredients of each: A1 Sauce Ingredients: Tomato Puree (Water, Tomato Paste), Vinegar, Corn Syrup, Salt, Raisin Paste, Crushed Orange Puree, Spice, Dried Garlic, Caramel Color, Dried Onions, Potassium Sorbate (to Preserve Freshness), Xanthan Gum, Celery Seed. HP Sauce Ingredients: Tomatoes, malt vinegar (from barley), molasses, glucose-fructose syrup, spirit vinegar, sugar, dates, modified cornflour, rye flour, salt, spices, flavoring, tamarind. Contains: Gluten Barley and Rye. Though it's a minor ingredient, the tamarind is probably the biggest contributor to the difference in flavour – though HP Sauce is also marginally sweeter. Keep in mind that there are also a few different variants of HP Sauce, and in this case, we're referring to the original, “basic HP Sauce”. I was surprised A1 sauce was given the name by an English King it was made for in England.
