Yep. Ford hoping to replace the Falcon in the nineties with the joke Taurus.

The design imported from the US for the first XK Falcon in 1960 but assembled here from Australian and Canadian parts. Over time the local content went up. Never fully imported for sale as a built up car. Would have had huge import duty taxes.

@goosegarage78 the US did not get the XM and XP models. Although little known fact is the XP in many ways is a US small Edsel that never made it into production as an Edsel but was sold as the first 1960 compact Mercury Comet although with no Mercury badging. Later Ford here used the old tooling and body strength with modifications for the XP. The XP was make or brake for Ford, so badly were the XK and XL received here. Minor local differences for the XR to XY, with more as they went on to the US models. Although so similar that there are a few XT GT cloned two doors around using a US body shell, just like Ford did with a circa 1968 show car that failed to generate enough interest for production here.

Louvres are venetian blinds. A popular dealer accessory in the sixties to reduce heat and glare from the sun when air conditioning was usually an aftermarket super expensive alternative. Show cars with them now being period correct and owners collecting every dealer accessory they can. Even big money on eBay for the right tissue box to fit the optional holder.

XR was the first V8 option model Falcon with the 289. A few years after the Valiant V8.

Ford summary of 91 years manufacturing in Australia : https://youtu.be/GMtdTl6sO5o In five minutes. Includes their first 1934 ute with the 302 model number, but well before the 302 V8. Reached the market just a few months before Holden released their Chevrolet ute.

@ronniegauci3843 although the local content would vary model by model and year by year.

Found a Holden built 1948 Chevrolet ute built Before Holden built the Holden car. A few thousand made from Australian designs and new panel pressings. https://youtu.be/QHp3uCxuIVc My family had the sedan version purchased much later for $1. Early driving lessons in it for me.

Ford here was hoping to replace the Falcon in the nineties with the joke Taurus cars they imported. Got burned by that idea here

You wanting to learn more about car based utes. One I could find easily is the 1949 Ford Mainline I think based on the Ford custom assembled here. Although we called them Single Spinners. https://youtu.be/RKFKtKIKoqI Harder to find YouTube of the pre war ones , but Ford , Chevrolet, Dodge and many others had the local factories design and press new body panels to cope with the real boom in ute sales pre war. Usually had a convertible option too. All well before the Ranchero and El Camino.
