Not underpowered for the early fifties Australian market. Especially power to weight wise.

Ute was 50-2106. You might like to check. Quote : A coupe utility derivative, coded as the 50-2106 and marketed as the Holden Coupe Utility, was produced from January 1951. That code should be on the original firewall builders plate.

The Holden Commodores were larger cars than the Omega although directed to share the Omega styling by GM head office to save money. No turbo sixes but five litre V8 Holden built motors giving similar performance.

The ute code was 50-2106. The sedan 48-215. The 215 and 2106 had nothing to do with engine size of course but just the GM design number for that year of design. The original cars have builders plates on the firewall with these codes if some idiot has not destroyed them over the years. Engine size from the first Holden to the FC was always 132 cubic inches . FB had a small increase in size.

@MelodyMan69 ok delude yourself about engine sizes . Do you have any reputable source or just your delusions

Up until the FB the grey engines were even smaller at 132.5 until they needed more power for the heavier FB.

The XU1 only won Bathurst in 1972 with Peter Brock driving. The Weber option was in 1973 when the Moffat XA GT won. So the Webers did not win for Torana but the standard SUs did. Supercar scare of 1973 meant cars could be modded more to go faster and not have Supercars in showrooms. Rules relaxed for racing was the start of the rot away from production cars.

Only the 1973 racing XU1 s were allowed to fit Webers after the racing rules changed.

Pretty clever of Holden in Australia to develop panel parts to make an export Holden off the line in Elizabeth South Australia that convinced so many Americans that it was built by Pontiac.

For the 1972 race win only unfortunately.

Unfortunately the Torana XU1 only won Bathurst in 1972. The current Falcon GT versions best them in every other year they ran against each other.

And Dodge trucks up to semi trailer size. Yet also the luxury expensive US based Dodge Phoenix. An unusual mix for Chrysler Australia.
