Some exaggerations to make the vid more notable. College sports here in Australia are usually amateur teams in the more amateur minor competitions without bug spectator crowds. An exception was the little known University team playing in the professional Victorian Football Leauge (VFL) playing Australian Rules Football before World War One : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMV7FKvUXBU The VFL got renamed the AFL in the eighties although it came from a breakaway from the VFA after 1896. Amazingly this has a reference to anti brushing teeth ideas of a South Melbourne supporter at the time stating University players are the type of people that brushed their teeth. The Oxford Cambridge University Boat race for rowing boats has a competition dating back to 1829. Has to be the oldest continuing sporting competition in the world : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr2BVkPpe30 I think competing in these rowing teams you get awarded a 'Blue' which is highly regarded in some types of social circles. Lots of spectators too, but no prize money. This idea spread to Australian private schools with the head of the River inter school competition in each state widely watched and covered on Television to an extent. The 1998 Victorian event was the 131st running for boys. So quite a history too : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uf7p1y7Pt8o Would imagine many other school an University sporting competitions too, but perhaps not as big as the US.

The Victorian schools oath of allegiance from 1970 Australia : https://youtu.be/bOkza64AyaA The Broadmeadows Tech school principal arguing against it helped deliver the Broady Boys and the state of that suburb now.

Quoting from the net for Australian schools in Victoria at least until well into the sixties there was the Oath of Allegiance : If you are of a certain age and attended a primary school in Victoria, then you will remember saying this every Monday morning, come hail or shine, standing out in the quadrangle under the Australian flag. We stood to attention with our right hand over our heart as the flag was hoisted up the pole and we chanted in the sing-song fashion of children. I love God and my country, I will honour the flag, I will serve the Queen and cheerfully obey my parents, teachers and the law. It was evidently called the Patriotic Declaration and has since disappeared into history. These days you will get woke groups arguing against every point in the move to the chaos they prefer

Never attracted to McDonald's but in Australia I understand they have free coffee refills if you like black coffee. Some attracted to the free aspect.
