A big part if it was featuring photographs as a major selling feature. A very new idea when it started in 1922.

  2. The Australian weather bureau, the BOM, stopped using Fahrenheit on 1 September 1972. So just a couple of years after the old Sun News Pictorial newspaper showing a forecast of 72F. The highest selling newspaper in Melbourne and Victoria and likely Australia. Still is, although merged with the evening Herald newspaper to become the Herald Sun in the nineties. No longer five cents but i think around three dollars when i last looked at how inflated newspaper prices have become.
